    Stafford to the Rams

Detroit is dealing QB Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two future first-round picks, a third-round pick and QB Jared Goff, per sources. Two former No. 1 overall picks trading places in the first blockbuster NFL trade of 2021.

Damn… Does that mean we are not looking for a quarterback in the draft? That contract on Goff is ugly

Goff has an out in 2023. In a sense this could be looked at as the Assweiler trade that helped the Browns. Absorb a **** contract for a few years and gain assets for it.

Sunk cost. Doesn't matter if he starts or is on the roster really.

Sure they'll let him start til a rookie is ready though

I mean we arent going to be winning much the next few years anyways, in fact, I'd argue more wins is worse for the franchise.

having a ton of first round picks the next 3 years will be extremely helpful in a rebuild, and who knows, maybe they package some picks and take a shot at a QB the coaching staff believes in

It's not a bad haul. Goff isn't that bad and Holmes did have a part in drafting him #1 with the Rams. Although his contract is awful like you said he does have an out in 2023.

I don't really know the ins and outs of Goff but it seems like he hasn't lived up to expectations. I just hope that this isn't Holmes thinking he's got 'his' guy now in Detroit to some how keep us whatever he defines as competitive. This team needs to lose games. Lots of them.

I like the trade because of the picks. Don't really like goff. I think he's an average QB at best. That said, he's 26 so it doesn't hurt to try him out. As others are saying, we're gonna be *** anyway so why not potentially have a decent QB to perhaps have a draft pick sit behind.

I wonder if we turn around and trade Goff for more picks. I mean it's possible. We could trade him to Washington.
