    Cardinals acquire Arenado from Rockies

#STLCards are pushing hard for Nolan Arenado. Word is, they seem very determined. Still there are complications: He has no-trade, though he hopes for a contender. He also has an opt-out after 2021 season, and Cards surely would prefer assurance hed stay longer.

This could be like Matt Holliday or Goldschmidt

Arenado not giving up opt out nor no-trade clause in deal to #Cardinals according to sources

I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

Crazy to me they are also getting 50M in the deal. That is pretty substantial.

However, there are definitely some red flags with Arenado. Will be interesting to see how he does outside of Coors.

I'm thinking more like the latter. A couple fading NL West stars at the corner infield spots.

If the deal goest through, Arenado will not only keep his out out after the 2021 season, but gain one after the 2022 season as part of forgoing the no-trade clause. The Rockies would be getting five prospects and sending $50M to the Cards.

    Super pumped about this.

Im curious how the 50 million will be spread out. And IF Arenado opts out at some point, if money will still be sent?

This makes the Cardinals a very solid choice to win the NL Central. Until this, it was a crap-shoot. Now, it Yadi comes back, they will be almost a shoo-in to get to the playoffs.

If arenando opts out, does the rockies still need to pay the 50M?

he played half his games outside of Coors all those years he hit .300, he'll be fine

Hadn't realized until I took a look at his career stats that the Rockies used to have a minor league team called the Casper Ghosts...not every city could pull something like that off
    gotta love 'referential' treatment

This was a pure salary dump. The cardinals absolutely gave up nothing of value. At the same time, Zips also projects Arrenado to be just an average to below average player over the next 5 years rendering his contract to be a disaster.
