Detroit Lions to actively seek trade for QB Matthew Stafford, sources say

In an arrangement the two sides have discussed and mutually agreed upon, quarterback*Matthew Stafford*is expected to not return to the*Lions*this offseason, with Detroit listening to trade offers for its former No. 1 overall pick starting this week, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.
With new general manager Brad Holmes and new head coach Dan Campbell now in place, the Lions will soon begin trade discussions that most likely will result in a new quarterback -- largely influenced by what and who the Lions will receive in a trade for Stafford, sources told ESPN.
The Lions are expected to receive at least a first-round pick, league sources said.

I’m assuming Holmes was super smitten on one of the QB’s coming out. They HAD to discuss this during the interviews and probably knew then that there’s a superstar in the making coming out of college that we could draft.

I LOVE Stafford, I love his grit, his willingness to compete, his toughness, I love his love for the city. ALL that being said I’m happy he’ll get a chance to play elsewhere. I hope he wins a Super Bowl (as long as it’s not against us). I’d hate to waste his talent and see him rot on our roster because we are rebuilding again.

I think we’ll get a 1st and 2nd for him and maybe a later pick next year.

1) 49ers
2) Colts
3) Patriots
4) Texans
5) maybe Broncos

That being said I’m not sure who would give up the most OR if Stafford has any say on where to go...
I think Stafford may want to go to Houston or if he liked playing for Bluto then maybe the Pats?

Potential replacements with connections to coaches on our staff include free agents Jameis Winston, who may be handed the keys to the Saints, and Tyrod Taylor.

I know it is easy to "LOL JAMEIS" because of the awful 2019 but most QB's under Bruce Arians struggle in their first year in their offense (names like Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, and Andrew Luck). Jameis will probably still be the "yolo" guy but for a one year filler (same guy spent a year under Brees and Payton) while we develop the future QB, I wouldn't mind Winston. Especially considering next year is a lost cause anyway.

I would take a chance on Winston, short leash though. I did not think this would happen but it also sounds like Stafford asked to be traded on 1-3 from the reports and told the new coaches the same.

Hey good for him he doesn't need to stick around for a rebuild and hopefully he can go win a Superbowl some where else. Right now we are not even talking about that here we are talking about complete blowing up of this team and starting from scratch.

This is giving away a guy for lottery picks you hope turn out as good as he is. This is what decades of losing gets you, a deficit to overcome just to keep and attract talent. Hope Mac Jones is an NFL QB.

I think we will too. Man I am excited to see how this all pans out most likely terrible as I think Stafford was a pretty good QB but if we get an additional 1st round pick like from Denver or San Fran there is so much this team could do to build this team with that one additional pick.

Yeah I think when ever you start seeing two 1sts even if one is in next years draft you kind of have to say yes unless you get a better offer.
