Lions Hire Aaron Glenn as DC

    https://www.profootballrumors.com/20...on-glenn-as-dc

After a false start, Detroit has sealed the deal. The Lions have agreed to hire Saints defensive backs coach Aaron Glenn as their defensive coordinator (Twitter link via ESPN.comís Adam Schefter).

Glennís stock has skyrocketed in recent years. The longtime NFL cornerback was even considered for the Jetsí head coaching vacancy, before Robert Saleh came away with the job. The Bengals also tried to interview him for their DC role back in 2019, before they were blocked by the Saints.

Glenn entered the league as a first-round pick of the Jets and went on to enjoy 15 years in the league. He stayed in the game after his retirement in 2008 with scouting role before launching his coaching career with the Browns in 2014.

Saints head coach Sean Payton has spoken highly of Glenn, so itís no surprise to see him move up the ladder. With offensively-minded head coach Dan Campbell at the helm, Glenn figures to have ample control over the other side of the ball.

New Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell expressed on Thursday that he had interviewed four candidates each for the vacancy at defensive coordinator and for offensive coordinator.

Reports surfaced earlier this week that the leading candidate was Saints secondary coach Aaron Glenn.

Soon after the report, news surfaced that a couple of other franchises were also seeking Glenn's services.

Now that can be put to rest, as Glenn is headed to Detroit to fill the vacancy left by Cory Undlin.

According to ESPN, Glenn is headed to the Lions to become their next defensive coordinator.

Undlin is out after only one season with Detroit. His defense never gained momentum and allowed the most yards and points in team history.

During his playing career, Glenn played for the Jets, Texans, Cowboys, Jaguars and Saints.

Glenn will be tasked with trying to repair one of the league's worst defenses.

In 2020, Detroit's defense set franchise records for the most points and yards allowed in a single season.

While there are a couple of pieces in the secondary, many believe the defensive unit needs a massive overhaul, starting with the linebackers and defensive line.

One of the key free agents Detroit will likely look to bring back is defensive lineman Romeo Okwara, who was one of the rare members of the roster to consistently pressure the quarterback.
    Thatís a solid start...

Played DB in the NFL, coached some good DB's in New Orleans. Seems like a nice fit in Detroit with young pieces needing development and/or reparation after the damage caused by Patricia's incompetency.

    Hi guys...

Okudah tweeted out that Glenn coached him in high school in a 7v7 league as well, though not sure in what capacity. Definitely like the hire.

I can't remember exactly where I crossed paths with this guy but I feel like whenever I was simulating Madden way back when, he was always on the team for those fantasy drafts.

Which means, Super Bowl bound of course.

All the more reason to bring him aboard. You invested a high pick on Okudah, give him all the tools and coaching to develop. Plus it is nice to have a DB by trait coaching the defense given how important passing has become in the NFL. Nice to have a coaching staff seemingly up to date on modern NFL football instead of, you know, neanderball.
