Gammons says that if Ed Howard was off the board the Cubs would have picked Nick Yorke at 16 last year. Yet another reason to love the Ed Howard pick.

God I hope that is just Gammons being crazy. Yorke was such a weird and not good pick.

If you are into the draft these Fangraphs weekly notes are cool:

    More on Justice Thompson:

Some love for my buddy Sal there. Also I know this isn't the point on Thompson's video but...whomever was up to bat when Thompson stole second, the way his jersey hung, made him look like a massive dude.

Ooh, Thompson would be such a nice fit with the draft tendencies this team looks like it's settling into. Kantrovitz teams draft a bunch of UNC guys and UNC commits, and they seem to want to collect all the monstrous athletes they can.

Absolutely a guy to keep an eye on over the course of the season.

I mean, I probably would have been able to dig it. Young-for-the-class with a strong hit tool. Just would have been really annoying to deal with the THE NEXT HAYDEN SIMPSON taeks. Also, Arizona commit, since getting a sense for Kantrovitz's draft tendencies is a pet project of mine.

Itís hard to tell with Gammons if itís legit or if Theo just told him that he liked Yorke too.

Im glad it worked out the way it did. Looking forward to Howard getting some at bats in a couple months.

They likely would have saved about a million vs slot given the bonus Yorke got. I like Yorke's general profile enough, but being able to maybe overslot a guy in round 2 would have had me down. More than happy with Howard, though. I'm hoping he's made enough strength gains that he taps into some legit game power this year.

Iíd agree Rocker has more upside, but more risk and not much more upside if Leiter holds his velo from this last start throughout the year.

If Iím going for upside Iíd probably go Watson at this point. I think heís got potential to be the best player in this class with his power speed combo. If he has to move off SS, it sounds like heís got the athleticism for CF so thereís a premium position profile there either way.

Long way to go until July, but thatís where Iíd be at today.
Do bloodlines only count in this case because his dad was a great pitcher? Because Kumar Rocker's dad was an NFL player, and I think but it's been a while, is in the College Football HOF.
