Depending on who comes on as coaching, I agree.

Except we can't even get rid of half of it in cuts, unless we cut players like Kelce.

The Eagles are currently $-74,086,351 over the cap as we have seen mentioned in this thread

In 2020 the Eagles kept $21,395,960 in cap to carry over for 2021

The salary cap was 198.2 million in 2020 and has a base floor of 175 million this year due to COVID.

    A) Going to have to eat a lot of dead cap in 2021 with Alshon, DeSean, Malik Jackson, etc.
    B) Re-sign Barnett to lower his 10M cap hit
    C) Try to restructure recently signed players, but that is tricky and only opens up long term concern. Do you double down on Cox? Slay? Hargrave?
    D) Do you trade Wentz and eat even more dead cap?

By no means is this a brilliant situation and they have to be aggressive with low risk, high reward moves. I just don't think the sky is falling as far as cap goes looking past dropping some of the dead weight.

They restructured malik Jackson and Alshon from my understanding already. Meaning there should be an element of easier to cut there.

Carson being traded could be finessed. Report was heíd help facilitate meaning he could restructure in a way that significantly lowers his cap hit

Itís definitely doable. I do believe the next season will be about setting ourselves up for 2022 both in acquisition of assets and freeing of cap room

I assume 2 straight seasons of top 10 picks and probably a pretty open slate cap wise in 2022 will see howie make another attempt at 2017.

    Thatís my assumption

They will get a coach with 2022 in mind

Either a coach they can fire (lol)
Or a coach that theyíre ok with grooming

They settled on Doug. They wonít want to settle again is my assumption

With expected cuts I assume there will still be about $50 million that is moved into 2022 with restructures and the like. That's why it's not really a one-year phenomenon, not when you're over the cap by that much and the cap is shrinking. Sure, you can always get under the cap with various tricks, but that's just moving the cap hits into the future.

2021 will be a dreadful Eagles season. With a new HC it might be easier to sell to the fans though especially if Wentz plays on just an average level instead of Bottom 5 QB level. Then fans will have hope for 2022, and that's really the most important thing an NFL team has to sell its fans: hope.
