I have always felt Carson is more comfortable under center rather than in the shotgun personally. He just looks for mechanically sound working from under center. It's every bit as much on Doug to scheme up an offensive game plan that helps his struggling QB.

Actually I think it was Kurt Warner that said dropping back keeps your footwork honest

Maybe that could help him for now since his footwork is brutal half the time
