Get to know Obi. Nice interview
https://www.nbadraftjunkies.com/obi-toppin
Nice write up. Say his most under noticed skill is his court vision. That’s nice. His ability to rim run and score in general will collapse defenses some

Hmm...
PG: E. Payton
SG: F. Ntilikina
C: Mitchell Robinson
PF: Obi Toppin
SF: RJ Barrett
Hmm...something is missing here. Oh that's right. No one can shoot. Spacing. Gonna be a problem. Otherwise this is another 10 win team.
No complains with this pick. I wonder if we come to regret passing on Avdija. But we need talent everywhere, I was pleasantly surprised he was there at 8. Good pick

This is clearly a tanking team. The Knicks better win the lottery and draft Cade Cunningham or Assault on MSG 2021.
I'm serious.
My problem with this pick is the fact, the Knicks new Front Office clearly overvalued what they had. If you look how teams are giving up 3-4 future First Rounders for a good player, the Knicks had to have known there was NO WAY a team would let go of Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, James Harden unless the Knicks pony'd up 3-4 future first rounders (to start).
So instead of making point guard a priority, they drafted a guy who is older than all their draft picks over the last 3 years!!!!!
I hope there is MORE to this kid than Tobias Harris w/o a jump shot.
But you don't pick a 22-year old kid who will peak in 3 seasons unless you had a plan to win now.
I know...another workout video
I wanted to post this because it seems like people are having a hard time with Obi saying there’s much more to his game that he wasn’t able to show and with draft experts not putting a question mark next to his shot.
He’s not Towns, but I specifically remember this forum doing the same thing with him during his draft and standing by him not being able to shoot because he didn’t take shots at Kentucky. Similar videos were shared, but people still remained skeptical as I’m sure they will with this.
Wanted to share anyway. At the very least it’s a positive post in what has otherwise been extremely negative for the past week.
He dunks on Kanter a couple times also, which I'm sure everyone will appreciate.
That’s where I’m at also. Seeing playoff game scores at 135-130 in regulation, I’m not freaking out about subpar defense right now. Let’s see what happens when he gets with Thibs and how the Knicks build the roster around him before determining that he’s so bad that it can’t work. We needed offense, we got offense. Let’s see where they go from here in terms of putting the pieces together.
If he’s averaging 22 and 8( in his prime ) on 48/75/38 splits I don’t give a **** about his defense. As long as it’s not the worst in the world (which I can’t imagine he’s worse than Randle/Kanter) it’ll be fine especially with Mitch behind him. We need to hope we can find a PG they can make it easier on him RJ and Mitch

This team is going to be pretty bad.
It's really on young, flawed players who can't shoot nor hit free throws.
Obi Toppin's rookie season will look Amar'e -esque: 13.5 ppg and 6-7 rpg. Once the Knicks actually get a legit superstar point guard, you're going to see his numbers explode.
