If nothing else it's a little extra proven depth for the DL rotation.

Not expecting immediate impact though, and I figure even if it works out it might take a little while for him to get back up to game speed. Probably won't see our first significant dividends until the 2nd half of the season.

Part of why he was added to the practice squad first. We can get him up to speed without using a spot on the 53 for him.

For this season each week we can protect 4 players. That said I'm sure Irving was willing to stick on the practice squad to continue to learn under Rod Marinelli. Even if Irving isnt protected Irving has to accept to get signed to another team. Irving and Rod Marinelli had a close connection during their time in Dallas. Likely the reason he chose the Raiders in the first place.

Yeah, not sure he’d want to be poached. We’re an improving team with a need at his position and a coach he’s worked with before. If I’m not mistaken, we were his first and only visit. I think he appreciates the opportunity and he’ll probably play with a chip on his shoulder.

In 2016 and 2017 he really played well.
2016. 15 Games, 2 started. 5 pass breakups, 4 forced fumbles!! 1 Fumble recovery, 4.0 Sacks, 5TFL, 15 QB hits.
2017. 8 Games, 8 started. 6 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, 7.0 sacks!!! 9TFL, 10 QB hits.

in 2018 he only played 2 games, none started, and had 1 sack, 2TFL, 2QB hits.

2019. 13 Games, 9 started. 1 pass breakup, 1 Fumble recovery, 2.5 sacks. 4 TFL, 6 QB hits.
2020. 6 Games, 6 started. 1 pass breakup, 1 Forced Fumble, 2.0 sacks, 4 TFL, 2 QB hits.


if we're going purely off stats... Irving stats are waaaaay superior to Q's. and we don't have to give up a high draft pick to get him. This is awesome. Just hope his head's in the right place.
