I'm eager to see what happens with Roberto Osuna and I wonder if AA will have any interest. AA did sign Osuna in 2011 as an international free agent. Osuna was rehabbing a UCL injury and began playing catch in September but I don't see any updates on him anywhere since he was put on waivers and became a FA. He might still need Tommy John surgery. Plus you have the potential PR blow back because of his domestic assault charge in 2018. Regardless, he's still one of the better closers in the league. I'm guessing somebody will take a chance on him.

I don't get why we claimed Heredia. If we want more outfield help wouldn't it just make the most sense to resign Markakis? He has been huge for our clubhouse over the years and obviously still wants to play. I don't get what's going on there.

Heredia is depth for the minors, he won't be with the MLB club unless multiple injuries happen, at this point in his career Markakis won't go to the minors and it looks like the Braves don't want to give him one of the 26 spots in the roster.

That and Markakis could be problematic from the standpoint that he would need to be a backup outfielder for Atlanta and, ideally, the team's backup OFers would have an ability to play multiple spots in the OF and play good defense. At this point, Markakis is 37 and almost certainly a subpar defender at either corner OF spots. His bat isn't really strong enough at this point to offset the defensive liability that he likely would be. I am fine with moving on from him.

He was an average bat for 6 seasons for us, 102 wRC+ which is nice, along with 8.76 fWAR. He wasn't great, but somewhat under apreciated because he was part of bad Braves teams, it was a good run, but it is over.

A few notes: Brian Snitker has been signed to a contract extension through 2023 with a team option for 2024. Terrance Gore, an OFer, has been signed to a minor league contract. Jack Mayfield, who was DFA'd recently by Atlanta, has been traded to the Angels for cash considerations.

Contreras has had 2 good AB's. Walked with the bases loaded and then hit 2 run single with the bases loaded again. I'm hoping to see him win the back up catching job.

I really like his poise at the plate, you just have a feeling of him putting a good at bat everytime. Since a backup catcher plays 2-3 times a week, he won't miss that many at bats as a backup.
