That's why I have a general distrust of using stats for arguments.

Cool. Also it seems to me that the eagles are the worst team in the NFL over the last 5 years going for in on 4th down. Every time my friends and I go out for beers and watch the game the eagles always fail on 4th down.
They really got to start converting some of those like other teams do.

Do people just lump context in with eye test?

I see it as 3 components but I have seen it mentioned throughout that there are 2: stats vs eye test/context.

I see them as different things.

Stats: QB had 325, 3td, 1 int. Must be good.
Context: 210 of that and 3 tds were in Q4 and a loss.
Eye test: passing through the game was erratic without a lot of catchable passes into good coverage and taking hot routes and dump offs until the defense started playing more prevent.

But I would never dismiss someone's argument based solely on the eye test, whereas I would dismiss arguments based solely on stats. That's not to say that any conclusion from watching someone play is legitimate.
