    Not going to happen.

The only team with draft capital is Jacksonville.
    They have 2 1s and 2 2nds.
All other teams can only offer future picks and that's not the same, as the expression goes 'a dollar in hand'.

Jacksonville could decide that they will pony up for Lawrence, or decide that Fields is more trade efficient.

If you trade Darnold you could easily gain a 2nd rounder from a team that loses out on Lawrence or Fields.
Chicago, Minnesota, Atlanta, Washington and Jacksonville would likely inquire about that.
Giving the Jets 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds.

I believe Darnold has some good football ahead of him, just not sure if it will be here, when it's all said and done.
    Lawrence should get you a 2021 1st and 2nd and a 2022 1st and 2nd
Normally you wouldn't trade a prospect this good, but if you can get the above haul while already having an extra 2021 and 2022 1st from the Adams trade, plus you're drafting at the beginning of each round, plus you have a ton of cap space, plus you have Becton, Darnold, Williams, Mims and Crowder, you could actually have a pretty good young nucleus in a couple of years.
For the Jets, this is a position you really need to be in.
If you keep Lawrence, you are going to take a lot longer to build up a talented nucleus around him.

All guys who were mediocre with Gase and have flourished away from him.

The dude is an incompetent coach. Whose fault is it that the Jets keep jettisoning guys away btw? If we believe Gase and Douglas have equal power then he was part of the decision making to let Robbie Anderson leave in FA, release Bell, trade Jamal Adams, etc. Not excusing the talent because we know its mediocre but Gase is the among the biggest problems here. He's an awful playcaller, he doesn't connect with players, he makes no in game adjustments, he trades or moves on from talented players while this team starves for NFL talent, etc.

Watch Darnold become a very good QB somewhere else. It was basically impossible for him to succeed here because the Jets never really gave him a true shot. I'm fine with that (now) but this team better change their **** up when the new head coach and QB are here next season.
I believe they showed a stat yesterday of the ineptness of a Gase offense, progressively getting worse for the past 5 years. I think the highest rank was low 20s in the league, so the baseline is pathetic

    Not necessarily.

Look at Arizona, did they take longer because they went for Murray over Rosen?

You mention cap space but are forgetting Darnold will be up for massive payday in 2 years vs Lawrence where you get to start over on rookie scale.

If any team is willing to give up 2 #1s and 2 #2s for a player, as you say, don't you think you should take a really good look at said player yourself, especially if that player is a potential upgrade.

With potentially 2 picks in the 1st 3, which is 6 picks in the 1st 3 rounds, how exactly does that take longer to build talent on a team.
All you have to do is draft right, if you are Joe D.
