FanGraphs' Depth Chart projections have the Yankees' starting pitchers at 18.3 Wins Above Replacement for next season, making them the top rotation among the 30 teams.

2) Mets -- 16.7 WAR
3) Padres -- 16.6 WAR

As much as I would like us to have what works out to be the most valuable rotation in baseball but with the health concerns it hard not to like the Dodgers, Padres and possibly the Mets ahead of us.

I do think our 22 rotation could end up being one if the better ones in basebal

I agree. Health is a major concern. Taillon, Kluber, Sevy all present health concerns. Monty is only one season removed from his TJS and Tallion even less, having missed all of 2020 rehabbing. We can only hope to see Sevy in June. I assume FanGraphs is using a best case scenario, full health and top performance. It is encouraging and probably a bit too optimistic, but the same would hold true for all rotations in ML. Injury can strike at any time and the WAR ratings are based on best case projections.

You are indeed correct. However they ( Chirinos and Cole) aren't exactly strangers. Chirinos, played in 2019 for Houston, where he received plenty of action behind the plate with Cole on the mound: Over 68 ²/₃ innings with Chirinos as the catcher, Cole pitched to a 1.57 ERA with 114 strikeouts and 11 walks.

I saw that in the write up about him. That's why I mentioned he liked pitching to him. I also think this plays into what Day was saying about having an older catcher to work with the young guys. His value may be more to Garcia, Schmidt, Medina.... with the occasional call up for a start.

Not sure I understand how the Yankees rotation can be predicted to get higher war than the Padres mets and dodgers when their team era is predicted to be over 4 while the other 3 teams were will have eras of less than 4 . The only thing I can conclude from all those numbers is that outside of cole , the reason why the yanks rotation will have such good war is mainly because of run support . Another thing I find hard to believe about those projections is that the Yankees are shown to get more innings from their rotation than almost all of the other teams listed there and I just find that very hard to believe when they have 4 starters who have not really pitched n the last 2 years and none of them are projected to go more than 155 innings .

Probably because Yankee stadium is a bandbox and the other home stadiums mentioned are not.

In other words the Yankees rotation is simply projected to have more run support than all other rotations in mlb and outside of cole that is not necessarily an indication of how good the Yankees rotation truly is .
