Ok, hope I m wrong. Always want my Yanks to win. But we already have a rotation with Sevy why add an other injury risk ?

You want Tanaka back. You're not worried about his elbow?

    What's the difference?

I'm torn. On one hand I am scared shitless with his recent injury history on the other he's a two time CY Young winner on a one year deal.
I doubt he had any choice but to take a one year deal.

Frazier, Andujar, Deivi and a few high end specs.

Sign Brantley to play left field.

Well I for one think Cashman wants to get praise for finding an Ace for cheap, “ oh isn’t Brian a genius “. Instead of spending money and trading assets. We have seen this before with Pineda, Paxton, and several others. Well he can shut me up if it works and if he makes a trade for an other starter that is top flight. Hey, San Diego did it. I like Schmidt, my granny was German hard not to like a Schmidt, and Garcia but trade them if the right ace comes up in a deal. And damn Lindor should have been a Yankee, rant from a guy who wanted him, my granddaddy was Puerto Rican and the Yankees have not a World Series since not having a Puerto Rican on the roster. Oh geez, Cashman.

My above post was in reference to this. It won't go with that post for some reason.

My understanding of the Yankees desire to stay under the 210 tax doesn't seem to make sense unless they just don't want to pay any of the luxury tax this year

    Reason being

The current cba ends after this year. So everyone in theory basically resets after this year, since there is no new cba.

Funny how the Yankees are trying to shop for bargains. Yet, they took a ugly stance at fans looking to get bargains with Yankee seats, recall the response of Yankee administrators reacting to the seemingly too poor buying seats off the internet from seasoned ticket holders who can’t make it and sell their seats for a game.

Worthwhile cashing our chips in for this one. Could put us over the line.

Agreed, not to many guys that would be better to learn from. Schmidt is a very similar type pitcher to Kluber, if i were him i'd follow Kluber around and learn everything i could from him

The other is a shoulder(obviously concerning)

But with some of the Yankees top guys working with him in the off season, them being Klubers recovery staff(even before him being a Yankee) and clearly having an advantage in his medicals, if they're willing to risk it, I put my faith in them.

I agree and its not like he had to have surgery on the shoulder, its just rebuilding strength in that arm. With Cressey being Kluber personnel trainer/ rehab guy they obviously had the most inside info on him. If Cressey had serious concerns about his health i highly doubt the would have signed him. He's worked with Blake quit a bit in Cleveland also. I think if any team is going to get the best out of him its going to be us.

He's never been a velo guy, 91-94 in his prime so being at 89-91 a month out in ST isn't a concern and from his workout scouts said he command and control looked great and he was spinning his breaking pitches well.

He's only 34 and hasn't had an arm/surgery yet so he should still be highly effect. If he's 75-80 % of what he was, we got him as a steal. If he can be better than that we'll be in really good shape at the top of our rotation, IMO

Everything i'm hearing/ reading is the Yanks are still shopping for another starter. If he can somehow snag Castillio i might have to forgive Cash for not getting Lindor/Carrasco.

If we get him our rotation could be really, really good

excellent point i hadn't thought of it that way. If they really should be all in and capitalizing on this buyers market and they're being cheap ??

I'm going to wait until after the season starts and maybe they'll pull off a nice trade. If not, considering this factor and that it's definitely a buyers market with smaller teams looking to shed payroll, I'll be very disappointed if DJ and CC are the only two real moves. Would just seem lateral. I mean getting Sevy and German back is an improvement, if they return to form.

Are you certain a new CBA would RESET the clock? My understanding the CBA negotiates the threshold and penalty tiers. If that were the casr why wouldn't teams blow by the threshold in anticipation of a new CBA?

My understanding penalties are carried forward. The threshold always increases. Penalties/tiers tend to remain fairly stable.

Sportsrac has tax liability going forward until 2024, which I don't quite understand since there is no threshold basis beyond 2021 for the purpose of calcs. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/tax/2024/
