Would be pretty sweet with a rotation of Cole, Bauer and Carrasco. Frazier gone, opens up Brantley signing or an Andujar sighting lol
Funny u brought up us trading for Carrasco, this is the 3rd article in as many days that i have seen that has mentioned him as a possibility. I think giving up all those young cheap yrs of Frazier for a 33 yr old MORP would be a massive over pay IMO. Frazier with his resurgence is the type of player that u use to headline a package for a TORP. An MLB ready middle of the order bat that hasn't even gone to arbitration yet has a ton of value. Its not like he's a spec that could be hit or miss, he's a young proven MLB ready asset thats more than ready to heavily contribute from day 1. I would want something very special back to give up the kind of cheap production Frazier should provide for the next 4yrs?

Cleveland is looking to save money and would likely pay down some of Carrascos remaining 3yr30m or close to that thats left on his deal. IMO he's still a very solid starter but i feel he's more of the answer for the MORP we need not the TORP that needs to be our top priority.

I really don't think he would be very expensive asset wise to acquire and if we was our 4th/5th starter by the time the playoffs came around i'd be very much on board with that.

Glad to see u are posting more 808, your just the kind of poster we need around here, hope u stick around.

    Then the condition hit.

Not sure if I want to trade high for him now given the medical history. If anything, would slot in as that solid #3 MOSP I mentioned a few posts ago. Two years ago, Carrasco would be my hands-down #2. Now, I feel that it’s Bauer or bust.

    Unless Max becomes available.

By the way.....I believe that this is the first time that we have ever conversed.

    Welcome.
Like i said above i'm not a fan of the idea of getting Carrasco to be our #2 behind Cole but i think he'd be a solid MORP for us. Depending on what Cleveland would pay left on his deal and what they would want in return i think we could do much worse than Carrasco as a middle/ backend veteran starter. I thought he pitched really well last yr considering that he was recovering from that illness. He'll never be the ace he was a couple yrs ago but i definitely see him being that crafty veteran that is always important to have in a rotation.

I absolutely agree with u that if they are going to fix the TOR on the FA market its Bauer or bust. I would love to have that kind of fiery, emontions on his sleeve, ultra competative mentality in our rotation. We need a high intensity, high energy type pitcher in our rotation. When was the last time we had a guy like that in the rotation? I also love the idea of a 1yr deal so there is no big, long term commitment. I'm just not sure Hal is going to be willing to spend another 35m on the rotation 1 yr after giving Cole that huge deal.

I will guarantee u this though, they will not come close to exceeding the 3rd luxury tax tier again. They have a deal in place with next yrs top IFA player, SS Rodrick Arias. He's on same level talent wise as Wander Franco and Dominguez, zero chance they over spend and be forced to miss out on Arias like what happened with 2 of their IFA signings this yr

There is also a rumor going around that Washington is likely going to be looking to dump payroll and with only 1yr left on his deal, Max's name has come up as a trade possibility. I think the biggest obstacle of a Scherzer trade is trying to figure out what 1yr of him should cost asset wise and how much of his salary they would have to take on.

Interesting article about what the Yanks need to fix this winter https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/m...-world-series/

Max had an ERA close to 4 this year. Yes argument could be made it was a weird year and short season. I believe he has 1 year left on his contract at 28M. He'd be a rental and he's 36/37 years old next season. Would you give up valuable trade assets like Voit and or Frazier for him?

That said, he is better than what we got hands down. I'm just a little worried he might be the next Randy Johnson for us.
    Great points.

I may not be the most objective analyst on Scherzer’s current worth as he is my single favorite player in the game currently. I have coveted him for years (as I did Randy) and hold out hope that he can pull a Verlander and have a late career bump.

You have to understand that I absolutely love power arms that dominate in their era. For years I waxed poetic over Roy Halladay who I feel was a once in a generation talent.

My own feeling is that Max would be solid behind Cole because he would not have to shoulder the ‘ace’ burden. Relieving Max of that pressure alone might be enough to get what you would want to ideally see out of him.

At this point I am on a Bauer or bust kick.

    Carrasco would be a great get...........as a low-cost #3.

All of this talk about Sevy, Deivi, and Monty is just stupid. We have to believe that Cashman isn’t completely dumb, but I have my doubts.

All true and great points but we also have 89m coming off of the books this year.

Hal could sign DJ and Bauer and still pocket 30 mil.

We need that power #2 arm. Bauer would be perfect, Scherzer, very, very good.

Time will tell but the one thing that we cannot do is stand pat and try a 2008 redux with Sevy, Deivi, and Monty.

that would be a massively, unbelievably, stupid mistake to go into next yr with so many questions in that rotation. When we did that in 08 it cost us a legit shot at a WS, if they do something similar next yr its going to be another wasted yr of our window and another 200m plus down the drain. If we don't significantly improve the rotation beyond what we currently have signed and ready to go i'm not sure we are even a playoff team much less a WS contender

I couldn’t agree more , but I don’t expect the front office to do much about the rotation other than bring back Tanaka or Paxton .

I tend to agree. There are so many uncertainties surrounding revenue due to covid, I think they are going to punt a bit on 2021 and try to reset below $210m.

That really doesn’t give us much room when you take into consideration all of the arbitration eligible players (has to be a $20-30m increase there) unless we unload salary (which is going to be especially difficult this year).

My guess is that we balk at offering DJ big money, exercise Britton’s option, pass on Gardy, and probably bring Tanaka back.

How about hiring the Rays staff?

    What an embarrassment.

So Cashman said if we had our healthy rotation then the Game 2 debacle doesn’t happen.

    1. Cole
    2. Sevy
    3. Tanaka
    4. Paxton

    Instead we had this

    1. Cole
    2. Tanaka
    3. Happ
    4. Monty

Yet he goes with the opener and Happ.

I know Tanaka sucked but he still should have been out Game 2 Starter.

    How about getting Didi back?

Give him a 2 year deal. And put Torres back to 2b.

    Trade Voit and Hicks
    Trade Scary Gary
    Trade German and his issues
    Trade Garcia and Monty

DJ goes to 1b after signing him to a new 4 yr deal worth $85 million

Then sign George Springer to play CF.
    Resign Romine to backup Higgy

    1. DJ 1b
    2. Judge RF
    3. Springer CF
    4. Big Mike DH
    5. Torres 2b
    6. Didi SS
    7. Frazier LF
    8. Urshela 3b
    9. Higgy/Romine

Then let Tanaka and Zach walk

Sign Ian Kennedy and Oliver Perez
And Kevin Gausman And Trevor Bauer, Jake and Quintana for an all vet rotation, no damn kids anymore for a while.

    1. Cole
    2. Bauer
    3. Gausman
    4. Odorizzi
    5. Quintana

    1 Chap
    2. Kennedy
    3. Green
    4. Holder
    5. Perez
    6. Sevy later in season

I got a chuckle when I realized this.
Didn't Cole say he disliked Bauer because Bauer put himself ahead of the team? Yes

Isn't Cole saying he doesn't want to be on a team with Bauer, putting himself ahead of the team?

Cole needs to be a big boy and march his big boy pants into the FO and ask them to sign Bauer.

Free agents 2021-22: Noah Syndergaard, Clayton Kershaw, Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Zack Greinke, Chris Archer, Mike Foltynewicz.

Yankees need rotation help now, however some interesting names on the list following next season. All getting on in years, but pure quality arms.

Question is would Bauer consider playing in NY, given their history that dates back to college.

Personally I think it's juvenile. You are professionals at the top of your profession start acting like adults worthy of the esteem you are held.
