The Yankees mourn the loss of Hall of Fame pitcher Phil Niekro, who won his 300th game with us in 1985. We send our condolences to his family & loved ones.

Phil Niekro joined the Yankees when he was 45 (!) and he went 16-8 with a 3.09 ERA in 32 games (!!!)

He won 121 games after the age of 40!

No, its what happens when I try using my big fingers to type on a small Fire; I do much better when using a rubber-tiped pen like I'm doing tonite. I hope it was obvious I meant to say Yanks would not finish above .500 in 2021 if they trade those 4 and possibly not for several years thereafter, so no eggnog (but I think I may tonite!) Sorry for not double checking.

Atleast if they traded those 4 they could get better talent than them , afterward

Really?? And what proof do you have of that? Pray tell, what is your source of this superior knowledge into the future? Who is going to be the provider of this better talent, oh great seer?

excellent question, i was wondering the same thing myself. If its so easy to acquire better talent then why haven't we done that before ?

He is talking about the one and only, pure trash: Ereck Flowers

His stern face can give that impression but I don't feel that's the case. New York isn't an easy place to play at, so honestly I can see his confidence at an all-time low for him.

I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

thats going to make San Diego tough, the NL looks like its going to be way tougher than the AL. Does San Diego's farm ever run out of specs? Between Clevenger and Snell they have to be close to empty

I think the Rays see that they probably won't be able to beat the Dodgers, ect with what they currently have. Before this trade they had some incredible talent in the minors, this only adds to it. They won't be as good as last yr but in 2yrs, My Lord

the bad news for us is that give Hal and Cash an excuse not to spend and likely go young and cheap

Certainly helps the Yankees in the short term. Long term we just have to hope those specs don’t stick. Need to compare the quality of the return. Might give us some insight to what it would take to land castillo.

Its 2 elite specs, Patiño and Mejia have both been top 25 specs and the other 2 are high ceiling lottery tickets. Pretty similar to what Boston gave up for Sale

I'm betting Tampa has something up their sleeve. Perhaps they intend to make a run at Castillo. They certainly have the farm system for it and tons of financial flexibility.

Why would you trade the better pitcher who is signed to a very cheap deal for Castillio when he's only going to get way more expensive? Tampa is doing what they have done for yrs, as soon as a player starts to get expensive and they can maximize the return the trade them.

Jim Bowden is reporting that Cincy turned down a bigger package than this from San Diego for both Gray and Castillio, so that should tell us about their asking prices. Bowden and many others aren't impressed with what Tampa got back

Well for starters the Yankees would be a below .500 team without them and then be in position to draft better prospects . And then they could either use those very good prospects to trade for really good players .
