As for Urshela, Cashman said he didn't need surgery, so it was the crack Yankees medical team that made the decision to wait, which is frustrating. Three months or so to heal, plus 3 weeks or so to get ready, brings us into the season. If the uncertainty pushes the Yankees harder to sign DJ and play him more at 3B, that's the one bright spot.

I could see them going after Schwarber, if they are considering trades involving Frazier. Frazier for pitching or Frazier, Anduar and minor leaguers for Lindor for instance. Otherwise, they have no place for him, because we all know Gardner will be back. LOL. It would be a nightmare to see the Yankees sign Schwarber and see Gardy sign a contract with the Red Sox.

The team definitely needs pitching, probably 10 starters over the course of the season and I would offer Masahiro a 2 year deal for $26 million to $30 million. We played this game before, where we believe that our player will go for $8 -$10 million and we lose out on him. Kluber is an interesting option, as well, to a lesser degree. Severino comes back mid year, so he will probably be in the ending group and probably Devi starts the year and Schmidt finishes it. Neither will be able to pitch 180 innings. I like German a lot and he might be the closest thing that we have to a rubber arm. He was a gigantic loss last season. Cashman is saying the politically correct things, but I'm hoping the team gives him a fair chance. After all, German lost an entire season and they gave Chapman a chance after getting any and firing a firearm into the wall of his garage after 30 games.

I couldn't agree with you more.

We need a legitimate #2 and #3. We can hold down the fort at #4 and #5 with some combination of German, Monty, Deivi, and Schmidt. I'm not even counting on Sevy. We have no clue what he will be after 3 years of not pitching and major elbow surgery.

Remove Bauer from the equation and they are going to be tough gets. Tanaka can fill the #3 roll, but not if the dollars and years aren't reasonable. No reason to invest big on a #3.

And for those of you mentioning Kluber. He's doesn't fill the void, especially coming off shoulder surgery. Stop gap at best and a team in its window should not be looking to stop gap starting pitching.

I like Castro and Muscgrove (more of a risk). But they are not realistic options.

Anyone have any realistic suggestions?

I also think the bullpen needs to be reconstituted, especially since the starting pitching looks like its not going to have any true upper echelon arms outside of Cole. Anyone have any realistic suggestions here?

I guess the point is that DJ, Lindor and anyone else we conjure up for position player additions is useless with the pitching the way it stands now. FYI-next years FA pitching class doesn't look too great either outside of Thor (who I assume will be extended by the new Mets).

All these posts about the pitching not being up to par really get me. Can we try to remember it's DECEMBER 7th. Plenty of time before we know anything about the roster. Try to relax.

First tidbit from the virtual Winter Meetings: yes, the Yankees have DJ LeMahieu as their priority and he wants to return. But I'm told it's "far from a slam dunk" he re-signs.

DJ is asking for 5-6 years at $20M+. The Yankees are staying at 4 as of now. That's the hold up.

I think I mentioned him earlier in this thread when we were discussing Lindor.

Imo Iglesias is a bargain. He turns 31 in January, in the second year of a two-year, $6 million deal. His 2021 salary is set at $3.5M. After that, he could join a potentially loaded free-agent class of SS including Seager, Lindor, Story, Correa and Báez.

He is an injury risk, Iglesias played in 39 games for the Orioles last season. He was sidelined for 10 days in August with a left quad strain. That marked the fifth time in seven years that Iglesias has been on the injured list, including 2014 when he was sidelined with stress fractures in both shins while with the Tigers.
