The same Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez who Brian Cashman very arrogantly and very publicly cut off negotiations with using the media to air the franchise dirty laundry in a public medium.

The same Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez who had to end-around both his agent AND Brian Cashman by using a backdoor mediary in Goldman Sachs executive Gerald Cardinale to open a direct line of negotiations with Hal.

The same Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez that Brian Cashman wanted absolutely no part of and wasn’t afraid to let the world at large know it.

Last night they ran a graphic during the postgame show outlining that it’s been 25 years since the Braves won a World Series title, as if that were a shock.

Let’s all take a moment of perspective silence to ruminate about just how close we were to being in that conversation.

If Brian Cashman had his way, this drought would have eclipsed the Reggie to Derek streak that we all love to cite when expounding upon the virtues of the dynasty.

And yet Brian Cashman is still allowed to collect meaningful compensation for a p/$s-poor, substandard job performance.

And we all wonder what the problem is.

Matsui only once struck out over a 100 times in 5 seasons of 140+ games. Cano, Jeter, Damon all contact hitters. Man, that 2009 lineup was so balanced with righty, lefty and switch hitters and contact/sluggers.

Matsui only once struck out over a 100 times in 5 seasons of 140+ games. Cano, Jeter, Damon all contact hitters. Man, that 2009 lineup was so balanced with righty, lefty and switch hitters and contact/sluggers.

Yep! Very well balanced, contact guys who hit it where it was pitched. Knew how to play situational BB, but also had enough power when it was needed. CC also pitched pretty well as did Burnett and Pettite. Mo was Mo, Hughes and Robertson were exceptional in their roles.

Hughes was NOT exceptional in his role in the 2009 playoffs as a whole . In fact he had his arse handed to him in the World Series .

Read Jorge. The season as a whole, not simply postseason.

Matsui was the other piece of that puzzle in ‘09 however the onus, to me, always reflwcts back to ARod.

Doc, we all know your rampant dislike for ARod.

It’s been well-documented.

The point that I am making, backed by both history and fact, is that, regardless of ARod’s various other foibles (and I agree that they are many), you can’t seriously try to posit that Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez did not singlehandedly deliver the postseason heroics that got them Brian Cashman’s one true championship.

Team sport minus ARod in 2009 equals no championship.

It really is that simple.

I agree. Ellsbury was under contract for more than $21M in 2020 and had a $5M buyout for the 2021 . Yankees disputed his contract for this season and refused to pay following his unconditional release. IDK, maybe he was only calculating the buyout? Also agree Gardy and Tanks numbers are off but not by large amount.
