MASAHIRO TANAKA, RHP
Status: Free agent.
Age: 32 (33 on Nov. 1, 2021).
2020 stats: Yankees, 3-3, 3.56 ERA, 10 starts, 48 IP, 48 hits, 25 runs, 19 ER, 9 HR, 8 BB, 44 K.
The latest: There’s a good chance that Tanaka will either re-sign with the Yankees or play in Japan next season for his old Pacific League team, a source close to the pitcher told NJ Advance Media. The source, who didn’t want his name made public, added that Tanaka wants to return to the Yankees and isn’t interested in playing for a team that won’t contend next season, regardless of money. The source added that it’s unlikely Tanaka will sign with the Angels, who already have fellow Japanese star Shohei Ohtani, a pitcher/designated hitter. Also, the source stated Tanaka has had plans for years to end his playing career with the Rakuten Golden Eagles, his club from 2007-13. Tanaka was good to very good in five of his seven seasons with the Yankees, going 78-46 and a 3.74 ERA pitching with a $155-million contract from 2014-20. Tanaka’s average salary in his last pact surpassed $22M. If he returns to the Yanks, he’ll probably to have to settle for a one- or two-year deal for around $12M annually tops.

Looks like what I said 2 months ago was correct . Cashman is gonna end up doing EXACTLY what I predicted . And Tanaka is not what the Yankees really need . They couldn’t win the ws the last 7 years with him what makes you think they could suddenly win one with him next season . That is no upgrade at all , it’s the same team that didn’t even make the alcs this past season
Pirates have asked the Yanks for Peraza and Medina for Joe Musgrove. If the Yanks trade Medina for him, i'll be beyond pissed. Short of Castillio, i would still try like hell to hold onto Medina, u don't trade Medina for a mid rotation pitcher that isn't guaranteed to be much better than anything we have now, IMO
Medina has turned the corner and has the most potential out of all the young guys. He should be MLB ready by 2022. I don't even think I'd move him for Castillo at this point. Gil is another guy to keep an eye on this year. I'd push Garcia or Schmidt first, but not for Misgrove.
don't disagree. If Medina continues to hold the release point/ control he has shown since july 19, IMO he could be ready sooner than 22. He spent all last yr working at the alteernate site and the video game numbers he's putting up now at against top AA &AAA specs. If he has a big ST, with the stuff he has it wouldn't surprise me at all if he were up by the AS break. If he controls his stuff he's not going to get hit by MILB hitters, he just needs some more live reps.
I love Gil, especially his FB but his lack of a true 3rd pitch is concerning if he is going to make it as a TORP. I think he more likely to end up being an elite closer, which is still incredibly valuable, than a TORP.
Medina and Gil have the highest ceilings of our pitching specs above a ball, although i really like Vizcaino and Gomez stuff wise. I think Viz is very under rated

even if they make an addition, as long as his release point and control stay where they are i think he'll be so dominate in AA/AAA like what he's doing now against that level of competition he will force his way into the rotation.
He's would be able to impact that rotation, IMO, far more than Garcia, Schmidt, King and likely German.
Getting tired of the specs that come up and have a solid 3-4 months and then go into the toilet.
Wha has this team done since 2017?
Yea, we saw some specs come up and produce but they are not what the Dynasty specs had done. And the veterans Cashbox picked up since 2017 were better on paper than the Dynasty veterans on paper but these vets are injured riddled stiffs.
Personally I’d do a reshuffle of the roster. And I mean a complete overhaul of the 25 man roster.
We are stuck with Stanton. But we can trade Judge, Torres, Sanchez, Hicks, Voit and replant the farm and go for it in 2023ish.
The Rays would have traded these players and the Yankees wanted to play their game so just do it then as Hal doesn’t want to touch the luxury cap anymore so just do it and lower the overall payroll with $500,000 players that would be in the starting lineup and then you don’t have to worry the rising costs of Judge, Sanchez and Torres and their stupid nagging injuries that hurt the roster flexibility when they are starting to get paid higher yearly salaries but never suit up for the games. All we are going to hear in the Daily reports is how well they are doing with rehab in Tampa and how many weeks away they are to returning.
This current roster is cursed! It is like having a your controller for your PS4/5 or XBox and it was great in the beginning but your game play was suffering so you throw the dame thing in the trash and buy a new one. It is time to move on with this roster.
I’m already sick and tired of the excuses of 2020 with Hal and Cashbox. Covid doesn’t mean a damn thing to me with regards to Yankee baseball. The middle MONEY teams are the one who got hurt not the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, RedSox, ect. They can cry all they want about how much money they potentially lost. Shut up and move on and throw 2020 in the trash!
