In theory the Ervin/Martini platoon could be quite productive. At a far lower price tag. On the surface that is looking like a fairly prudent move by Jed IMO. Obviously we have to see what happens on the field. Im curious to see if they can unlock the Schwarber we all longed for. See if he has another gear.
I cannot believe he got 10m. Good for him.
I fully disagree with this. I mean, fully. Nick Martini is garbage. Yes, he had a nice 180 PA's or whatever in 2019, but he did so with a literal unsustainable .379 BABIP. With a launch angle of under 5 and a barrel% of under 3. He's a horrible hitter, and there's no world where he's going to come anywhere near what Schwarber is going to do. He just got lucky. He's far more the 80 wRC+ hitter he was in 2020 than he is the hitter in 2019. He's replacement level. He's also graded out bad in the OF. He isn't an MLB player.
The Cubs are amazingly worse in LF. They could have picked up Ervin for free any time, and Schwarber's coming or going changes none of that. Schwarber's likely to deliver a 120 wRC+ against RHP and would have done so for $2m less than he got in Washington. Adding Ervin to him probably gave us a good platoon parter.
A Martini strong side of the platoon very well might be one of the 2 or 3 worst "strong" sides of a platoon in baseball.

That DOM guy says the Schwarber news isn’t what his original tweet was referring to.
So keep an eye on social media today I guess

Kris Bryant is a trending topic currently on Twitter.
Could be something involving him, or it could be nothing. Stay tuned.

Man, need the Bystro signal up to find out if this other bad news Dom is teasing is KB related.
I hope we get some prospects that aren't teenagers
Maybe that part of the cubs thinking, with the still uncertainty of this season with Covid and the possibility of a strike next season, they are going to try and take advantage of it by resetting themselves this year and next, both players wise in the system and financially.
I know I've been holding out hope that they end up keeping KB, Javy, and Contreras but if trading them helps stock up the system more and this season and next season gets affected by Covid and the strike, then they kinda put themselves in a good situation for 2023 both financially and prospects wise..
Maybe I'm just looking for a positive side of what most likely going to be a down season for them but it a good thought [emoji6]
