I've been saying this for years. There can't be any form of a cap, without some form of a floor.

A cap is not the solution. Caps are designed to lower spending on players.

To me, the solution is to increase revenue sharing but only on a condition of winning. Owners need to be financially incentivized to win. If you are a team that pays into revenue sharing then the more you win the lower percentage you pay into revenue sharing. If you are a team that received revenue sharing then the more you win the more you collect.

If the Rays can win the AL on a $60 million payroll then good for them. If the pirates lose 110 games with a $40 million payroll they should collect less revenue sharing money than the Rays do. If the big market Cubs want to tank then they should pay a higher percentage into revenue sharing than the big market teams that don’t tank.

I think they fit the description of what Kershaw is asking for though. You don’t see the cards trading a Cy young candidate for 4 18 year olds to cut costs rather than try to win. They make some trades that don’t work out but typically they make trades with the goal of getting better in the short term, not 5 years down the road.

The Cubs operating the way they are for the 2nd time in a decade is embarrassing and players see it that way.

They will spend though. It’s not like they refuse to spend. I mean they just took on Arenado (yes I know Colorado paid a chunk, but still), traded and extended Goldy, they had around $200 million offers on the table for Heyward and Price. They aren’t just going to go crazy spending money, but if there’s a guy out there they like and it’s at the right time, they will pay up.

Just realized they took Marquee off Hulu. Not really sure how I’m gonna watch games this year cause I’m not paying hundreds of dollars for cable.
The channel has been a disappointing nightmare.
