Basically. At least with Stewart I think there might be a tiny bit there. In 2018 his velocity was sitting a tough above 93, when we last saw him pitch in the majors, down to 91.9. He did show strong spin rates on the curveball, despite not throwing it a lot. He's got options left. If the velocity is back, with a pitch mix fix...

Maybe you can squeeze #5 status out of him.

I actually think stewart is mildly interesting. But the bar is pretty low.

If you're talking about the pitcher Kohl Stewart: A former top-5 pick (same draft as Bryant) of the Twins. He's 26. He's been a nothing burger so far in the professional ranks. He hasn't been worth discussing in about half a decade.
I love Sahadev! He's definitely one of the best.

Everything on Stewart really rides on his velocity. His sinker (which he throws more often) and his fastball got some whiffs and got outs in 2018. Not a ton, but enough to stay somewhat effective pitches. In 2019, these were pitches that got generally blasted, with an xOBA nearly .500 on the sinker and the fastball, only used 25 times, didn't record a single out.

He didn't win a spot in what was a not very inspiring Oriole's rotation his last year. I don't expect anything here. He sounds like a dart on a pedigree. But that was a really long time ago.

    He opted out last season.

I meant his last season in the MLB. Sorry that wasn't very clear. Meant it to say "his last year" and forgot the "his" part.

But yes, he opted out in 2020.

The Ricketts are probably just worried that if they sign any player to a guaranteed contract, they might go past the tax threshold and have to go back 10 draft spots.
