Wittenmeyer claims there is still the potential for a return.

That said, if they're dickering over $2m or $3m or so, that tells you a ton of their financial situation.

It's pretty crazy to NT a young guy in his prime years after 60 games of suck.

On the other hand, i embrace change for the franchise right now. If somehow Baez, Bryant, and Rizzo aren't back either for 2021 I'd be totally happy with that if we got value in return.

It will be interesting to see what Schwarber gets on the FA market.

Let him walk. We need change.

The possibility of him coming back is zero IMO.

Iíll give them credit for hiring Theo. Iíll give them credit for not getting involved in baseball decisions like some owners do. Beyond hiring Theo what impresses you about this ownership group? Maybe you just like their politics? Even with the Theo thing they just got lucky as hell that the Red Sox collapsed in 2011 and he was ready to move on.

The Cubs have had a top 5 payroll 4 times in the last 10 years and are looking to slash spending again. They put a lot of money into investments that will drive revenues to themselves but in terms of what we should care about as fans theyíve been an entirely mediocre ownership group. Iím sure Hotel Zachary is nice. Marquee is garbage. They bought up a ton of property.

Since Steinbrenner died there hasnít been a good owner in MLB. The Ricketts are far from the worst of the worst, but they are no better than most.
Isnt Ricketts the one who invested a ton of cash into the Cubs Latin American system and facilities?

Also, I would say landing Theo on its own was the best thing Ricketts or anyone else could have done for this franchise. Sure you can say the Cubs got lucky that Red Sox **** their pants, but he still had to sell the job and the future of the franchise operations to Theo, the guy could have gone anywhere he wanted.

I'm not gonna sit here and say Ricketts is the best owner in baseball, because honestly I have no idea who is or who isn't. Just don't think hes done nearly enough wrong to warrant hating him.

Doubt heís back. Now that heís on the open market there should be a few teams that are willing to pay him more than what the Cubs are IMO.

Yeah I don't see a return either. Its more interesting to watch the Cubs refuse to pay $8m for a 2-3 win player and then offer him less. Thats telling of the financials.
