I actually like this deal a lot. We have money this year to spend so the 40M is not a big deal... And luxury tax purposes it will only be 33-36M only because luxury works as overall AAV. Also the Mets clearly don't want to lose all three next year so 40M will be tough for him to pass up.

Regardless of what happens with Bauer, I'm excited to see Peterson continue to improve his game. He's getting left out of a lot of the rotation discussions, but I think he's going to surprise.

Peterson has A LOT of room to improve. His stat war numbers scream mediocrity, I think he’d be pretty good in a limited sample.

I don't. There are other useful free agents that could be gone if he strings us along too much longer. I get the feeling he just doesn't wanna be here so he's using us as leverage and waiting until the last possible moment to see if LA will up their offer.

Let’s assume Bauer dies choose the Mets and the offer is 3 years with a opt out option after year 1. Let’s say Bauer did opt out Would we receive a compensation pick? I think tuataras the case with Cespedes after we resigned him after the World Series run

You can guarantee that is what he is doing to maximize his price. On the other side of this, I also feel the situation with Callaway may have made him pause for a couple of days to see if the Angels were going to fire him. With that not being the case, it came "down to 2".

If he dies first, then his agent chooses the Mets, we should be OK. If he chooses the Mets and then he dies...we are screwed.
