Somewhere in between, ~$24M-$27M

If he has a Scherzer like career, he’d be raking in $33M-$41M a year

I like how you lay that out. Similar to the high profile jobs in mainstream America. The higher you go in the corporation, the more the total compensation is bonus based on performance and not base salary. If you look at approx. $4M per WAR for Bauer let's say over the last 4 years (2017 through 2019 and an extrapolated WAR for his Cy Young 2020 campaign), his base salary ought to be around $17M. So your $18M is just about right. Last year alone, with an extrapolated WAR of 7, would have yield about $29M. Given your notion of $18M base salary and then incentives as you lay out, he would have come in with another $11M just for CY and ERA so right around $30M (and more if he achieved those other bogeys).

I don’t think you can construct a construct with that type of incentives based on performance.

They can build it with innings pitched or Cy young voting but not on performance marks like era & strike outs.

If the Mets could sign Hand, I could live with their present starters with a bullpen of Lugo, LeMay, Hand, Diaz, Familla, Betances and Brach .

I dunno. I question the utility of a Lefty reliever these days with the 3 batter/finish inning rule in force. I know, Hand isn't solely effective against LH hitters, but he clearly does better against them than righties. We do have I think a pretty good BP with Diaz and May, plus you got Lugo, who should return to form after unsuccessfully given a chance to start. Also, Betances should be much better and Brach and Familia are OK.

Of course, it all depends on the price and if it costs $10M for Hand I would pass.

The Mets have clearly improved their offense, but maybe need to focus a bit on defense, especially in CF and perhaps at 3B as well. The starting rotation ain't bad either.

Not say the Mets should not continue to try and improve. But I think CF for one is a major priority over obtaining a lefty specialist. It may come to pass that the Mets start the season without a lefty in the BP and that isn't really so bad afterall.

Their rotation has super potential.

Taillon at least stays healthy, sooner or later I think he will live up to some of the great potential.

He's a California boy. All this social media stuff is him trolling. If the Angels or God forbid the Dodgers give him a deal comparable to the Mets or another team, he'll go back home.

The Mets have toned down their aggressiveness and thats a Sandy thing. If you told me they got Bauer and Marisnick, I would take that 100 times out of 100 over JBJ and Hand. You can find effective RP. Its hard to get TORPs.

At this point I wish Cohen would just sign Bauer, Pillar, and Justin Wilson... We'd be WS contenders in year 1 of Cohen. Pretty amazing.

We might already be in the pieces fall our way this year.

But even if we end up with JBJ/Pillar and Hand, this has been a great offseason and should be a fun season.

Giving 8 figures didn't work out well for Betances or Familia. I think they probably bring back Justin Wilson now.
