I sort of feel Alonso is their guy and they can't trade him because of how much the fans love the guy

Notes from Sandy Alderson on podcast w/ @JonHeyman
- Has met Steve Cohen in-person once, Andy Cohen played key role in Steve & Sandy becoming duo
- Mets are rebuilding their analytics infrastructure
- again mentions the Mets only have 2 outfielders
- no decision on Lugo's role
"You don't know how to drink. Your whole generation, you drink for the wrong reasons. My generation, we drink because it's good, because it feels better than unbuttoning your collar, because we deserve it. We drink because it's what men do."
@mikemayer
Reading in-between the lines of everything Alderson said on the podcast:
- Need a starting caliber outfielder and would prefer right-handed hitter
- still looking to add pitching depth and starter is possible
- will add someone that is at least depth at third base
"You don't know how to drink. Your whole generation, you drink for the wrong reasons. My generation, we drink because it's good, because it feels better than unbuttoning your collar, because we deserve it. We drink because it's what men do."

Sandy Alderson, "Dom's not going anywhere."

Depth = Todd from tom’s river.

My favorite player to watch field is Nolan. I can’t imagine watching a Nolan/Lindor combination on the left side of the Mets infield.
I think if we somehow swung a trade for Nolan, I’d lose my ****.
I wonder how desperate the Rockies are to get out from that contract. Hopefully, really desperate.
I believe.

It’s kind of funny that we could come out of the offseason without signing one of the Big three of Bauer, Springer, and JT.
Considering most Mets fans were assuming that was clearly the route we would go.

Anyone predict we would swing a deal for Lindor?
Anyone predict Lindor AND McCann?

This predicts Springer to TOR for 5yrs/165mil.

If that is what he actually gets, then they can have him. For that money, the Mets could get DJLM and JBJ or Pillar and I think they would be much better off overall as a team.
Also, why isn't Pillar getting discussed more as an option for CF? He bats RH, would be a defensive upgrade, has some speed and is not a terrible bat.
If we are set on RHB for CF, Pillar is who I expect we get. Add Pillar and Hand, and we're likely a playoff team already. In fact, we may be a playoff team right now. You can't expect good defense at every single position. If we add a good defensive CF, we can get away with JD at 3B.
Hand is important right now. Hope we get him on a two year deal.
And that’s been 1 of my 2 points. We just don’t know what’s going on in that office. So, to say the Mets are not doing this or that is a bit short sighted. My other point that I’ve been trying to drive home is, we are now going to act like a large market team. So, we as fans need to start thinking like one.
