I wonder if Rockies would be interested in some expiring contracts. I certainly hope they donít go into next season thinking they can win it all. Maybe they would be interested in some prospects and expiring deals.. Do the cubs have expiring contracts like Chatwood they could use in addition to some prospects to get it done?

That would leave the Rockies only on the hook for one season and then they have more money to spend in 2022. Although this is just speculation on my part, I admit I donít know much in this space regarding the value of expiring contracts in baseball.

For example in the NBA a team might make a lopsided trade but the real incentive for them is getting those max spots available in free agency to offer players.

Chatwood is a free agent. Why would the Rockies want expiring contracts? They will want prospect's. Not money.

The MLB doesn't work like the NBA. The Rockies wont trade Arenado whos signed for a lot of expiring contracts hoping to entice someone to an Arenado-less team.

They may take a wee bit of money back, but itll be to get better prospects. The Cubs won't fit in Arenado under a team who might be shedding $20-$30m next year. Its a pipe dream.
