The claim: An officer involved in the death of Breonna Taylor was injured by friendly fire
In the aftermath of Breonna Taylor’s death, the facts of the case have been muddled as various false claims circulate online. Among them is an assertion that one of the officers involved in the shooting death was shot by friendly fire.

“It is now believed that the police officer who got shot in the leg in the shooting of Breonna Taylor was shot by ‘friendly fire’ from his own officers,” activist Shaun King tweeted.

“His partners were haphazardly emptying their clips and fired shots into 3 different apartments. They shot him,” King continued. King also posted the same claim to Facebook.

One of the officers involved, Jonathan Mattingly, was shot in the leg after police broke into Taylor’s apartment. There is no evidence to support King’s claim that officers had shot him; rather, Kenneth Walker, Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, fired the shot as a “warning,” he later told investigators

Attorneys for Taylor’s family and Walker do not dispute how Mattingly was injured that night.

    Investigator interviews after Taylor’s death
After Taylor’s death March 13, the Louisville Metro Police Department conducted an investigation into the case. This included interviews with the involved officers, as well as Walker.

Jefferson County Commonwealth Attorney Tom Wine, who released parts of the investigation to the public in late May, said the move was meant to correct "misinformation" circulating about the case.

Among the claims Wine sought to dispel was that Mattingly was shot by his fellow officers.

During his interview with investigators, Walker described hearing loud banging on the apartment door but not any calls identifying the people outside the door as police. Each statement from officers describes repeated knocking and the yelling of “Police!” before entering the apartment.

Walker told investigators that when police entered the apartment he shot "Towards the ground," as "really, just a warning shot, so if it was somebody, they would run off or something."

The bullet hit Mattingly in the femoral artery in his leg, causing a potentially lethal injury. Officers then entered the apartment via battering ram and fired a wave of shots, several of which fatally wounded Taylor.

“So now, the door’s flying open on one side, and then all the sudden there’s a whole lot of shots,” Walker told investigators. Walker claims he didn’t hear anything as he fired the shot.

Walker does not dispute firing a shot at the scene. Mattingly was swiftly taken to the hospital, where he required surgery.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said officers knocked on Breonna Taylor's door before the shooting that claimed her life.

Cameron held a news conference discussing the case after a grand jury announced that no officers would be directly charged in the shooting death of Taylor. One former officer, Brett Hankison, was indicted on wanton endangerment charges for allegedly firing shots that went into a nearby apartment.

The announcement came 194 days after Taylor was shot and killed by Louisville Metro officers in her apartment.

Attorney General Daniel Cameron said Louisville Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and officer Myles Cosgrove were "justified" in their use of force the night Breonna Taylor was killed.

Hankison was terminated from the police force in June.

RELATED: Brett Hankison formally terminated from LMPD for violating procedures the night Breonna Taylor was killed

Taylor was killed on March 13 while LMPD officers were serving a search warrant as part of a drug investigation. It has been widely reported that the officers were executing a 'no-knock' warrant. With this type of warrant, officers do not have to identify themselves.

During the news briefing to explain the grand jury's decision, Cameron only referred to it as a search warrant. He said the officers were told by their superiors to knock and announce their appearance while serving this "specific" search warrant.

"The scope of our investigation didn't include the obtainment of that warrant by LMPD's Criminal Interdiction Division. Federal law enforcement partners are conducting that investigation," Cameron said.

Cameron said Hankison, Cosgrove and Mattingly were called into duty to help effectuate the search warrant and were not involved in the obtaining of that warrant.

Cameron said evidence shows the "officers both knocked and announced their presence. It was also corroborated by a witness in an apartment near Taylor's." Therefore, Cameron said, the warrant was not served as a "no-knock" warrant.

"When officers were unable to get anyone to answer the door at apartment #4, the decision was made to breach the door," Cameron said.

Cameron said they pieced together their investigation from ballistics, 911 calls, officer statements and eyewitnesses.

"No-knock" warrants have been banned in Louisville after the passage of the Breonna Taylor law.

Meanwhile, was Walker even hit? 32 shots, 8 hit her, several hit the neighbor's wall....I mean how bad a shot were these guys, but more critically.....how do they justify HER being hit that many times?

THAT'S why I don't agree with the assessment that nobody is at fault for her death.

I also find it interesting to read that the officer charged yesterday was fired at the time of the incident, the other two were reassigned to desk duty......so they hadn't even done their investigation and they were already treating the other two differently.
do they not have any type of lights?

I'm familiar with "could have" and what that means to you: nothing.

    One would assume yes.
One would assume they didn't take the time, having been awakened in the middle of the night, to turn them all on like they were having a house party.
    Beyond that, I don't know, I wasn't there.

My post was the direct result of people not knowing how to quote others properly. It's not my job to clean up other people's messes.

You know: kind of like what just happened with your most recent post as well.

Just because they don't need to, doesn't mean they don't. There's a reason ugly people don't end up on TV. Fox knows exactly what they're doing along with all the other news networks and quite frankly all of broadcast and cable TV knows the same.
