Penguins G Matt Murray was just traded to Ottawa for the 52nd pick in the draft.

So looks like we don’t have to worry about that rumor anymore

Reports are that the Hawks tried to land him. For the cost, I'm glad we didn't. I'd rather just re-sign Crow.

    Blackhawks 2020 Offseason Thread

MLBTR did their Top 50 FA Predictions just before the start of FA.

They predict the Hawks to sign G Braden Holtby (2 yrs/$12 mil) and C Derek Grant (1 yr/$2 mil)

Not sure how I feel about Holtby.

I gotta admit.. seeing the announcement Crow won’t be back was hard to see. Obviously all these guys’ Blackhawk careers come to an end at some point but he was crucial to 2 cups. He played lights out in so many games.

Kubalik at $3.7mil is Stan's first win in a while. Subban sucks, but I guess he may as well suck at $850k.

Matt Murray extends with Senators after being acquired via trade from Penguins.

    4 yrs/$25 mil ($6.25 mil cap hit)

Glad the Hawks didn’t make that deal.

    Gross.

Braden Holtby has signed with the Canucks. I'm really surprised they are letting Markstrom walk after the way he played in the playoffs. Holtby is only a year older, but a lot more miles on that body.

Yeah you don't pay that much for a goalie unless he is king lunqvist in his prime, quick, etc haha. Thats terrible.

Kubalik can grow a lot too. I think he can become an extremely good two way forward.

Now just get more good players here lol.

Does anyone disagree with this theory?

The Hawks would have been a better team after firing Tallon if they didn't even hire a GM? If they just hired a cap specialist. A draft specialist. And only traded RFA/UFA when they couldn't afford them for draft picks? Or just let them go.

That's how bad I feel Stan is.

The Blackhawks’ abrupt shift into a full-blown rebuild — kicking Corey Crawford to the curb, trading Brandon Saad to Colorado, not qualifying Drake Caggiula and Slater Koekkoek — has blindsided the final four members of the core.

And Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook aren’t happy about it. As one source close to the veterans put it, “They’re pissed. The core guys have had enough.”

Toews took a far more measured — but still pointed — tack.

“Bottom line is, I want to win,” Toews told The Athletic on Saturday night. “The expectation for the other leaders on this team and myself is to come ready to training camp every year to be a playoff team. We prepare ourselves to win a Cup for our fans. I’ve never been told that we were going through a rebuild. That has never been communicated to me, for that matter. A lot of this comes as a shock because it’s a completely different direction than we expected.”

The negotiations — or lack thereof — with Crawford might have been a breaking point between the players and general manager Stan Bowman. After signing a two-year, $7.8 million deal with New Jersey, Crawford said on Saturday that the Blackhawks made one offer, for one year at around $3 million. The Blackhawks never budged and pulled the offer off the table before free agency began, choosing to give Malcolm Subban, Collin Delia and Kevin Lankinen a chance to show what they can be. Crawford said he was “devastated” and “shocked” after the phone call from Bowman.

The core was, too. They were also angry. Yes, Crawford is 35. But he’s still an elite goalie, with a .928 save percentage over the last three months of the season after taking the No. 1 job back from Robin Lehner.

“It’s sad,” Toews told The Athletic. “It’s really disappointing. Crow has given so much to this team. I feel he was ready to bring more in the next few years and still be a big part of this group. He had that mindset that he could help this team go deep in the playoffs again, and there’s no doubt that he could.”
All excerpts from a Mark Lazarus article via The Athletic.

Not sure where it goes from here now.

Gotta can stan and JC, get a new GM and let him pick his HC.

If you're gonna rebuild or whatever you're doing, I think we can all agree is Stan should not be the guy doing it

I want a different guy too. Not a retread.

If Toews or Kane ask to be traded from this sinking fail boat, it will set this franchise back for a long, long time. Fans will ditch them again. The newer fans who weren’t around pre-Toews and Kane era won’t remain loyal and the fans who were will recall the “dollar Bill” Blackhawks who gutted the teams stars and had no direction for a rebuild for a decade after. Tread carefully, Rocky!
