Mike Clevinger & Zach Plesac sent home after violating team's COVID-19 protocol

Plesac went out with friends in the city following the team's game against the Chicago White Sox in which he threw six scoreless innings. After his teammates and staff learned where he was, they reportedly became upset and uncomfortable with the behavior and the Indians quickly sent him home to isolate and quarantine.

Plesac will reportedly be quarantined for 72 hours and tested daily. His next scheduled start is Saturday, August 15, against the Detroit Tigers.

The decision by Plesac comes at a surprising time as MLB has tightened protocols amid COVID-19 outbreaks within multiple organizations. The pitcher's time in Chicago is a violation of the rules set by the team and the league.

Indians right-hander Mike Clevinger has violated their coronavirus protocols, the team announced (via Ryan Lewis of Ohio.com). Clevinger was scheduled to start for the Indians against the Cubs on Tuesday, but they’ll go with fellow righty Adam Plutko instead.

Clevinger’s violations came on the road against the White Sox over the weekend, as did fellow starter Zach Plesac’s.

Both of them deserve it. I hope that the NFL will be doing the same thing. They should be docked pay while in quarantine as well.

They deserve more than being sent home. I'd be fine with both of these selfish ****s seeing a 5-10 game suspension.

Lol and Clevinger threw Plesac under the bus for going out, then word gets out that Clev was with Plesac.

    What a douche.

That I absolutely agree with as well. If they don't get it now after the Marlins and Cardinals, it's got to be a suspension.

anybody else think this is going to get more nuts by the end?
Teams having to postpone more games than they can make up....players opting out en masse if their team appears headed nowhere.....but yeah, follow protocols or opt out
    gotta love 'referential' treatment

Contact tracing would make this so simple or something with a geo-fence of where you can and can't go
"He's getting the best job in baseball."

Bruce Bochy sent a clear message to whoever will be the Giants' next manager

Pretty sure they're not allowed to leave the hotel when they're on the road except to go to the stadium. Very simple rules.

The Indians have reinstated starters Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac from the restricted list. In a surprising twist, both rotation members have been optioned to the alternate training site.

This news comes in the aftermath of a forehead-smacking decision by this talented pair of right-handed hurlers. They each violated collectively bargained MLB coronavirus protocols and then — as rotation mate Adam Plutko explained — lied to the team about their poor decisions.

The decision to option both pitchers came on the heels of a team meeting involving them both, as Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal covers (Twitter links). It’s clear the organization decided it had to send a message.

Wonder how long they'll keep them down. Can't imagine it's very long. Good on them for sending a clear message though.

I can't imagine more than a week or two tops.

Should be long enough to take a year of free agency away from them.

They just need to say that things are going to be done by winning percentage. Some of these double-headers, even at seven innings, are a bit ridiculous, and for a team like the Phillies, it's not even their fault.
