Vikings sign head coach Mike Zimmer to a multi-year extension

    Mike Zimmer

    HC, Minnesota Vikings

Vikings signed coach Mike Zimmer to a multi-year extension.

The particulars of the deal aren't known, but Zimmer was set to enter the final year of his deal prior to the extension. It keeps Zimmer out of lame-duck status. Zimmer, 64, is actually the league's eighth-longest tenured coach, as he heads into his seventh season atop the helm in Minnesota. Zimmer is 57-38-1 with a 2-3 postseason record. He likely needs to start winning some playoff games if he's going to stick around for a decade in Minnesota, but Zimmer is undoubtedly one of the more solid coaches in the sport.

Glad to see this. Curious to see what they’ll do with Spielman.

Carter80 was the first person I thought of when I heard the news. Hopefully all of the weapons have been removed from his home and he is in a safe place

Everything I'm reading on Twitter suggests Rick will be getting the same extension soon. Zim, Rick, and probably Cousins will all be tied together at the hip.

Carter80 and I was just hanging out at Hooters and he wasn't mad at all. I told him that Zimmer is going to get us a Superbowl and he just said to me V4LB I FEEL BETTER NOW THAT YOU SAID THAT. 😂😂😂😂

Zim is 64 so it's not like we have him all that much longer. Appreciate what we have because he won't be around forever. Zim and Speilman have been by far the best tandem we have EVER had imo. Sure they are not perfect but they have set us up to be pretty damn competitive year in and year out. It also helps that our ownership has the backing and willing to spend that $$.

Love Zim and he will likely go down as the second best coach behind Grant. If he gets that chip though he will get that statue lol.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Zim coaches until he’s 70. Belichick is 68 and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. These guys are die hards and will probably coach as long as they physically can. I hope we have Zim for that long.

I could see that for sure.
Now, had he not tragically lost his wife, that may not be true...

Zimmer will go the Bud Grant route. Except he'll win a Super Bowl and will go down as the greatest Viking's head coach of all-time.
In 20 years we'll have Zimmer garage sales and it will be awesome because some of the stuff will be Super Bowl material.
