Yeah, if you had asked me beforehand I would have expected Jones to make more than Donald because he signed his contract two years later.

But Jones will be a free agent again at age 29, so it seems like he's hoping for two big paydays.

Donald doesn't have a weakness in his game, Jones is an absolute liability in the running game. Hes a great interior rusher, but he's not a complete player to deserve to be mentioned with Donald.

I only meant comparable as in he's a top 5 interior lineman in the NFL. A lot of people on this forum (Especially Eagles fans) know how highly I regard Donald. I think he's easily the best interior lineman in the game. I'm just saying that it's conceivable to think that Jones would have gotten the highest paid contract from a defensive lineman since he signed his deal 2 years after Donald did.

I think that shows just how big the gap is between Aaron Donald and the next group of IDL there is.

Also this makes this upcoming season of Cam Heyward’s contract at $9.5 mil and a cap hit of $13 mil. But his next contract will be in the $15-20mil range.

Also we’ve seen this typically in other positions compared to QB. I think QB negotiations have trained us to always think the next one has to be bigger. But every other position seems to be this capped number based on what the best at the position is making.

Anyway, the point is even borderline Top 10 players can get top money when the best at the position has been paid two years ago. But Jones isn't even that; he's firmly in the Top 5.
