Most NFL stadiums are public property.

For a time slavery was a big part of the economy, but that only lasted for so long. Lets be clear here, slavery owners were a small minority of the country. Let's not act like every single person had slaves.
What? July 4, 1776 *was* during a civil war, and the the newfound United States were *allied* with the French. The British even promised freedom to slaves who joined them, so arguably founding the state on the institution of slavery hurt the US during the war.

After the war the effect of slave labor on the economic was massive and the industrial North wouldn't have developed as quickly without it. Some states had more slaves than non-slaves, so the argument that not everyone owned slaves is kind of irrelevant. It says a lot about the type of economy that was run though.

Was gonna say I'm not taking most of these holidays off anyway so personally I don't care. Though FWIW, I'd like to add a nationally-recognized holiday somewhere between New Years and Memorial Day.

Your whole post is exactly my point. That's why they couldn't abolish slavery right away. If they did they would've had another war immediately after. To maintain the new nations fragility they had to keep it they way it was. But that's why it was great that they had the amendment process.

Can you imagine how different things would be if the federal government was 1/20th the size it is now? The founding fathers were, overall, fairly impressive people, but certainly not perfect and not saints.
Oh I agree. I think there's been a little too much propping up of the intelligence of the founding fathers while ignoring their flaws.

And that was due to FDR. Before then it was an "unspoken rule" based on Washington stepping down after two terms. And even then there was a lot of push back from some of the top politicians at the time that Washington wasn't running again after his second term.

Malik Jackson of the Eagles has come out and defended Louis Farrakhan as a good man. This guy has called Jews termites, said Hitler was a good man, said Jews are behind 9/11, etc.

I think all of us can agree there’s a big problem with white America not treating blacks fairly. Ranging in a scale from being full blown racist to maybe just ignorant and burying our heads in the sand to it.

Seeing a lot of the “controversy” behind this, at what point do we just acknowledge that there seems to be the same widespread hate/ignorance in the black community towards the Jewish community. That doesn’t in any way take away from or justify white America being racist towards blacks but it feels like something we should acknowledge IMO.

There isn't a race or large cultural group that's immune to hate/ignorance/prejudice/racism/culturalism. Absolutely zero of us can claim whatever group we're in doesn't involve any of that...or even as individuals claim we're completely innocent. One of the problems in all this is each group then getting defensive about that. Historically, we know no groups have suffered more in this than blacks, natives, and Jewish people..but it's everywhere in every direction.

Rodney King's line still rings simple but true- 'can't we all just get along?'
