Poll- Should this year be Samís last chance?

Provided there is a full season and he plays all of it, should this be his last chance to prove heís FQB?
In your opinion, does he need to show significant improvement to maintain is job or do you give him another year even if he shows little improvement?

    2 answers, yes or no?

I vote that this should be his last audition and if he does not make a jump, we should look to draft another qb.

    More time, way too early
When you draft a QB #3, youíre signing up for at least 5 years

    Fair argument.

If he gets better, I think it's all good.
If he doesn't? I look at Sanchez, Geno, Winston, Mariota to name a few. I don't know that I stick with him is he regresses. Depending on where I pick, if he did? I may pick a QB.

Gase is on the clock, not Sam.

If we have a top 3 pick next year, it will certainly warrant a discussion
Could also be drafting the next Phillip Rivers...and trading away Drew Brees

Yep. If Sam regresses, I think you have to seriously look at a QB in the draft, depending where you pick.
If Sam looks better and like he's growing, we are all set.

I agree with MrX regarding Gase being on the clock but even if Gase is crap, Sam should still show signs of growth.
Because then, if Gase goes and you give Sam another coach, he will get another 2 years to figure it out.
You can't give him 1 year in a new system and then say goodbye.

This is why I think this is a huge year for him.

True but I cant hold playcalling against Sam, and the playcalling, ESPECIALLY last year, was below average as a whole.

Sam's seat may be under a light but the seat is not hot, at least not yet.

My question is how do we define improvement? Numbers are a nice thing to look at, but what if the Jets end up 5-11 or 6-10?

Sam needs to improve, not the team necessarily.

I feel he needs to improve %, ints-tds and take fewer sacks. Yes, people will argue the line but their were quite a few sacks he took that were terrible and his fault. He took points off the board more than a couple times by trying to make a play instead of throwing it away.

The offensive line should help with the sacks

I agree. He wonít have to learn a new offense for the first time in 3 years.

I expect him to build upon how he finished the year.

Again, if he does build, no question he sticks around.
    What if he significantly regresses?
