What does he mean by asking people where they think? (However, I might venture that many of them are sitting on it right now).

Or a Freudian slip, depending on who was the source.

Do we get a say whether your state is a state?

Voted on by Congress....but you wouldn't think it prudent for members of Congress to get feedback from their constituents before any vote? I know they so seldom do...

I am pretty sure the majority of Americans would not mind one bit if it became a state, but this guy wants them to ask red states only because thatís who they consider real people.

Do you think that people haven't been discussing for quite some time whether giving people in DC representation? This isn't something that just popped up randomly and snuck up on people.

I hope that you representation in government doesn't ever become contingent on others actively supporting your rights...

dude, I'm just going by history....the last time New states were added supposedly there was national public discussions about it. When the district was originally created Maryland and Virginia donated land and the district was to be under the exclusive jurisdiction of Congress. Virginia land was later given back and is now Alexandria. But mainly, there's an article in the Constitution that speaks about this no more than 10 mile Square area that Congress would govern.

Giving DC statehood would make it a one city state with a governor, mayor, representative and two senators. Seems a little silly.

It also sets a terrible precedent. Make NYC a state. Then Chicago and LA. Break up California and Texas. And don't forget PR.

That's 10-12 new dem senatorsÖand that's the real reason to make DC a state. It is so transparent, it is laughable. If DC was even 50/50 republican, you would not be hearing this movement. If DC wants representation, let them become part of Maryland or Virginia. That would be a lot simpler to do.
