There are primaries happening, and a couple are significant.

ó Which democrat will be selected to run against McConnell ó moderate McGrath* or progressive Booker?

ó Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is facing a challenge from Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, who is the choice of the party establishment.

ó Speaking of Ocasio-Cortez, another NYC district features a replay of her primary run two years ago:

ďThe incumbent this time is Eliot Engel, who is 73 and has been in Congress since 1989. The Times calls Engel ďa faithful practitioner of old-school Washington politics, rising in committee ranks and bringing home perks for his diverse and overwhelmingly Democratic district.Ē Heís been endorsed by Nancy Pelosi, Andrew Cuomo, Hillary Clinton, the Congressional Black Caucus, Planned Parenthood, and multiple unions.Ē

The challenger is black educator Jamaal Bowman, 44, who grew up in public housing and became the founding principal of a Bronx middle school. Bowman has spoken about being unjustly arrested and supports reducing police budgets. He has been endorsed by Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Democratic Socialists of America, and Move On.Ē (New York Times)

    * Almost every media outlet I have seen refers to her as ďformer fighter pilotĒ as if it is her middle name.

I would love Booker to win, but I think the lady has better shot at beating McConnel, a slim shot but a better one than Booker.

Kentucky doing their best to suppress the black vote by having one polling place where half of the population is black.

I voted for AOC because she is awesome and well the other chick is a republican disguised as a democrat.

Engel time has passed, some new blood is needed.

NY polls just closed, very early results look good for AOC and Eliot Engel's primary challenger, Jamaal Bowman.

Huge night for left wingers in NY. Almost universally where reasonably congested they're pulling it off in state legislature races. Wonderful to see. Proud of my favorite state, for once.

Sucks Bernie won't be President though.

I'm also officially an independent. I will never forgive the party for circling the wagons as shamelessly as they did to stop a once in a lifetime candidate. The leadership continues to show their true colors and who they really are fighting for and it's not compatible with my beliefs. I have hope that some day they'll get there and there are a lot of good ones and a lot of new ones, but the Pelosi/Schumer/Biden Democrats are undeniably detrimental to progress in this country. Even many of the self-proclaimed progressives (look at mayors all around this country) are irredeemable. I'm off my soap box now but I'm happy to not be a Democrat any more.

And the voter suppression we've seen in Kentucky is insidious. I wish Bolivia would come do a coup on us...

Edit: reminds me... Biden did a Venezeula tweet the other day that I'm pretty sure dbroncsinmo wrote for him. I hate him so so so so much.

Edit to the edit: maybe not because it was critical of Trump but nonetheless....Biden trying to outflank Trump to the right. Yippie!

Yeah hopefully all these leads hold when mail ballots get counted. Carolyn Maloney, Eliot Engel, and that absolute slimeball Ruben Diaz Sr. look to be going down. AOC re-elected. McGrath is going to lose in Kentucky. Louisville hasnít counted yet and Iíve heard thatís gonna be a blowout for Booker. Her lead right now doesnít mean much. Also Lexington, a college town hasnít reported anything.

Ritchie Torres also winning isnít the 15th congressional seat.

He is an up and rising name that donít be surprised if he ever ran for mayor or governor in the future.

He would be the first Afro-Latino openly gay elected to the house if he wins. He is beating Ruben Diaz Sr who is a trump supporting democrat.

Yeah he beat homophobic Trump bootlicker Ruben Diaz who thought he could sneak into Congress in the most Dem district in the country just on the back of his son whose name he shares and who is a popular figure in the district. Very glad Torres pulled it out.

Not surprised about the progressive wins in NYC, because of it's a long history of liberalism. It's the sprinkling of progressive wins across the nation that got me charged. It will be slow progress to overtake the moderate for control of the party, but wins against senior democrat moderate is a good beginning.

Iíd have preferred Lopez, but Torres is a good choice too (especially in comparison to Diaz, Sr.)
