As for the corporations, yeah they can. In fact, they've been doing inversions with overseas companies to avoid US taxes and regulations. But we can actually draft laws making it more difficult for overseas companies to compete in the US, and we could even help their competitors if they choose to leave for overseas.

Heck, doing so falls right in line with Trump's whole "put America first" mantra.
They arenít asking for a $1-2 raise in the minimum wage. They are asking for an undefined term in a ďlivable wage.Ē Thatís the problem. You canít negotiate with someone who canít define what their goals are or at least wonít let them be known. You are talking in definable terms ($1-2). But the side asking for the raise arenít using such terms, not ones that are reasonable.

They are the protestors and furthermore the politicians who could actually make a change. Speaking in non defined terms is poor form and creepy.

And believe it or not, the idiots on this internet board arenít solving anything. We literally accomplish nothing.

Ewing already covered it but if you have a problem with what "they" want, go yell at them. I'm asking for $1-2 raise to the minimum wage and you are refusing because of some nefarious "they".

Also, they haven't defined their goals or won't let them be known? What are you talking about? You've been bringing up their $15 an hour goal for awhile now. What they want is very clear: they want $15 an hour minimum wage.

You disagree. And you're using that disagreement to also oppose a $10 minimum wage, and a $9 minimum wage, or any minimum wage increase at all. I suspect it's because your actual goal is to not let the minimum wage be raised at all.

Agree with a conservative Trump supporter and see how that goes.

And before the usual...poor trump, poor conservatives blah blah blah.

For the purpose of this conversation, I donít care about raising the minimum wage $1-2. But we are also discussing why reasonable goals are not accomplished. This is an issue with our political system and especially pertains to the issues in this thread.

No one believes black lives donít matter. To even suggest this is an issue in 2020 is ridiculous. Everyone agrees cops shouldnít kill civilians, regardless of race. Yet here we are.

As far as minimum wage, the side that you support is not being reasonable in their goals. Asking for absurd amounts or undefinable terms like a living wage is not a starting point. This is a tactic used by politicians. Itís like making abortion illegal. Itís an absurd premise to tell women what they can or canít do with their bodies. Our goal as a country should be to limit abortions by any means possible. Yet we have two sides arguing over non starters (Womanís rights vs killing babies) that donít really pertain to the issue or solve anything. Itís the same with police involved deaths. Our goal as a country should be to limit this as much as possible by any means and reprimand individuals when this occurs, while accepting we canít control people. Ending racism is a non starter because itís an unattainable goal. Yet here we are.

Protesters are people asking for big change. rarely in history do they get big change. if they do it usually occurs only if they cause some kind of change in govt structure. More often some of their more digestible ideas get co-opted by the mainstream or they spur some smaller change by brining attention to an issue that had been ignored. They almost never actually pass laws themselves. Often they donít even have unified demands or desires.
I think reasonable goals donít get passed bc some people are against them.

Would you support a 2 buck increase in the federal min wage or are you only ok with it for ďthe purpose of this conversationĒ? I donít know what that means

I think we need to get the structural change. We need to replace the people who talk a good game but who don't really want change.

Politicians are supporting those protestors though and they are using undefined terms instead of solid amounts because they know $15 is not achievable and will kill small businesses. They wonít define the term ďlivable wageĒ because they know thereís no amount lower than $15 which would satisfy those protestors. $1-2 appears to be a slap in their face and would be a loss for those politicians.
