Of course to do that we'd have to fix the tax collection system (not currently racist) and fix the absurdly broken housing system (not currently racist) we have, and the reality is that the people in power who can make those changes have no interest in making those changes.
No, conservatives look from now forward and think we already have the solution because we have equal opportunities in the systems NOW.

But it seems you don't believe there is systemic racism, which is yet another fine example of your liberal beliefs.

I've said repeatedly we have systemic issues that result in unequal treatment by race. I think the solution though is to focus on the systems and not the race.

Fix the system and the racism will be eliminated.
Equal enforcement of laws and equal sentencing would be a good place to start.

Why do you think so many of our systems result in unequal treatment by race? Do you think that many of these systems were created to specifically do just that?

Because the largest population of poor in cities are black and our system makes it hard to climb out if you are poor. And in the past it was MUCH hard to move out of the "poor black" parts of cities and towns or to get education. And because our (non ideologically racist) systems make it hard to go from poor to rich black people have been effected negatively more.

So, in the past black people were specifically and broadly targeted because of the color of their skin by out systems, and now it is much more about poverty and circumstance than the color of their skin.

If we had a comprehensive universal support system, and got rid of the regressive parts of our system while also selecting people for things like jobs, scholarships, admissions, etc through an anonomizer then over a long time the unequal results by race would go away.

Take the war on drugs. It was started to combat people who didn't like the government which included black people ... black people were specifically one of the groups being targeted. But the war on drugs has been doubled, tripled, quadrupled, and quintupled down on over the years, one of the BIGGEST proponents of it being one Joe Biden. And the war on drugs has done horrific things to black communities in cities, MUCH worse than to other groups ... so if the war on drugs is ideologically racist then so is Joe Biden right?

I think the war on drugs is stupid and it's just taking a bad situation and making it worse to sell politicians to the people who are "trying to make the streets safe for our kids" or whatever the BS they spew is.

    Biden said:

“They are beyond the pale many of those people, beyond the pale,” Biden continued. “And it’s a sad commentary on society. We have no choice but to take them out of society.”

In the speech, Biden described a “cadre of young people, tens of thousands of them, born out of wedlock, without parents, without supervision, without any structure, without any conscience developing because they literally … because they literally have not been socialized, they literally have not had an opportunity.” He said, “we should focus on them now” because “if we don’t, they will, or a portion of them, will become the predators 15 years from now.”

Biden added that he didn’t care “why someone is a malefactor in society” and that criminals needed to be “away from my mother, your husband, our families.”

“The consensus is A), we must take back the streets,” Biden said, “It doesn’t matter whether or not the person that is accosting your son or daughter or my son or daughter, my wife, your husband, my mother, your parents, it doesn’t matter whether or not they were deprived as a youth. It doesn’t matter whether or not they had no background that enabled them to become socialized into the fabric of society. It doesn’t matter whether or not they’re the victims of society. The end result is they’re about to knock my mother on the head with a lead pipe, shoot my sister, beat up my wife, take on my sons.”
Hillary warned of “superpredators” who had “no conscience, no empathy” and who need to be brought “to heel.”

But you know what else they said? Biden said during his campaign about his crime bill “I haven’t always been right. I know we haven’t always gotten things right, but I’ve always tried.” And Hillary said “Looking back, I shouldn’t have used those words, and I wouldn’t use them today." And Bill Clinton who signed that crime bill said that he “signed a bill that made the problem worse, and I want to admit it.”

So, did good people in good conscience pass non-racist laws that they thought were going to help and just get it wrong? Or were they racists looking to destroy black people?

I don't think the system is ideologically racist, but we damn well have a broken system.

    No more drug war.
No more locking up non-violent criminals.
No more prisons that don't focus on rehabilitation and civil and safe treatment of prisoners.

Help addicts get better rather than punishing them.

Universal health care, child care, and education through junior college/trade school.

Get rid of regressive taxes, and start with the gas tax and road tolls and bridge tolls. Poor people who drive have to go further, and tax money built the roads, they should not be faster for people with more money.

Don't allow big companies to buy up housing to drive the prices up.

Streamline the process to build more housing, and make it WAY cheaper.

Have more small police stations, get rid of the big central stations. Make sure that the police live in the neighborhood they work in. They should know the people they are there to protect and server and the people should know them. And stop protecting them when they are **** people.

Of course none of that is likely to happen as long as the current group of politicians are in charge (yes on both sides). And they are not going to change quickly unless we get money out of politics ... unfortunately the only way I can see that happening is with an amendment to the constitution, and that is virtually impossible.

On amendments, the last one to pass took 202 years to pass, and that was 30 years ago, and IT was just about Congress being allowed to vote for more money for themselves. I imagine that probably had 90%+ support by the public and it took 200 years. The one before that was 50 years ago and it was to allow 18 year olds to vote.

I think we are ALL fundamentally screwed.

Researchers sent thousands of resumes, some with white sounding names and some with black sounding names. Predictable results: the black sounding names got fewer callbacks and interviews. Some companies were far more discriminatory than others.

This is one of many studies that submit identical resumes with white/black sounding names. They all come back showing a negative bias against black sounding names.

To those that say systemic or societal racism doesn’t exist. Yes it does.

This is actually not the first study to show this sort of thing. There was another a few years back that showed that a white applicant with a criminal record was still more likely to get a callback than a black applicant with a clean record and a college education. Devah Pager specifically did a lot of work in this area, like the study she published here.

this type of thing hurts real racism.

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/o...de-us-paranoid
Our obsession with racism has made us paranoid
We are told racism is everywhere, so some now see racism even where none exists. It’s the logical conclusion to a culture that tells people that essentially every single thing in this country, including math, bird-watching, and food, is racist or has racist roots. When everything is supposedly racist, people are going to see racist symbols and hear racist slurs where there are none.

Consider, for example, what happened this weekend during a game between the Colorado Rockies and the Miami Marlins.

Activists, journalists, and even entire newsrooms were convinced after a brief video circulated on social media that a white fan screamed the N-word from behind home plate. USA Today baseball columnist Bob Nightengale even called for the fan to be arrested and barred from ever attending “a sporting event, let alone anything else.”

However, the Colorado Rockies concluded later that the fan actually yelled the name of the team’s mascot, Dinger.

Of course, the fan yelled something like “Dinger!” Do you really suppose a fan was just out there screaming the N-word and that no one around him reacted or attempted to correct him? Or is it more likely he was yelling something else, which gave no offense to anyone within earshot? That journalists and activists sincerely believed it was the former, and never even paused to consider whether it was the latter, is par for the course for the race-panic in which we are living. They couldn’t even conceive of a scenario in which they misunderstood the fan and that something else may have been said during the game.

    more examples...

There are so many examples of similar incidents in which people mistake something perfectly innocent for a brazen act of racism that it’d probably take too long to compile them all. But here are just a few recent examples:

In 2020, Oakland residents, including even the mayor, were convinced racist vandals had put up a series of nooses in a public park. Later, after a black resident explained he and his friends put the ropes up as part of an exercise system for the benefit and enjoyment of parkgoers, the mayor insisted that the intent didn’t matter. The ropes still looked pretty racist, she said.

“Intentions don’t matter when it comes to terrorizing the public,” the white mayor said. “It is incumbent on all of us to know the actual history of racial violence, of terrorism, that a noose represents and that we as a city must remove these terrorizing symbols from the public view.”

That same year, CBS News falsely accused firefighters of flashing a supposed white supremacist hand while posing for a group photo. In reality, the firefighters were simply playing the “circle game,” an old schoolyard pastime in which a person makes a circle with his thumb and index finger and then punches whomever he tricks into looking at it.

In 2019, major newsrooms, including the New York Times and NBC, accused United States Military Academy cadets of likewise flashing the supposedly racist “OK” hand sign. Similar to the firefighters, the cadets were simply playing the “circle game.”

Earlier, in 2017, comedian Sarah Silverman had a mini panic attack after she saw what she believed was a swastika spray-painted on the sidewalk. As it turns out, it was just construction markings designating the location of underground pipes and wires. The markings didn’t even look like a swastika!

It never occurred to these people that the things they saw were actually innocent. It never occurred to them there may be a perfectly reasonable explanation. Rather, their first instinct was to allege wrongdoing by a shadowy cabal of racist vandals, who apparently roam the county either quietly or loudly proclaiming their racist allegiance.

    why is media triggered.

    https://www.newsweek.com/ahmaud-arbe...matter-1653286

Several tweets claiming that Arbery had said "all lives matter" went viral.

What he actually said was "all life matter" as he spoke about not wanting another family to lose a child the way he had lost his son.
because apparently all lives matter is different than all life matter.
    stupid media.
