Most people haven't even been to MN dude. Midwest is not for everyone. I wouldn't be here except I grew up here, and you would be hard pressed to find a better metro to raise kids when you factor in crime, available public education, cost of living, etc. But, it's for sure not for everyone, and the winters are extremely long and tough at times.

But hey, we all have our biases. If I didn't have family here (my wife's ENTIRE family tree lives in this state), I would probably move to Colorado. But, Minnesota is awesome really. The summers, are beautiful. The sheer amount of walking/biking paths and parks throughout the twin cities is unmatched in any other metro area. The lakes are great, and there is enough culture in the cities to suffice to a degree, though the suburbs are pretty white. I know I mentioned the schools, but you pretty much have to try and not be in a great school district here.

Anywho, thought I would defend my state haha, but I also get it's not for everyone, for sure.

The twin cities area is awesome actually. It's one of the few big midwestern cities that has thrived post the steel crash of the 70s. They have a huge amount of wonderful outdoor art around the city. I'd live there...

When I moved back 6 years ago, I lived downtown, and dude, I loved it. Plenty of culture to see/experience. Having 2 kids I moved out to the suburbs, to provide them the education/safety of course, but we will be going into the city a lot during their upbringing. After I retire, if we stay here, we are moving back downtown.

I wasn't even trying to slam Minnesota. Was simply inferring that it wasn't some hot destination that has just now become undesirable due to police violence and riots.

I’ve never been to the Midwest but I could say with confidence that I don’t want to go lol.

You are also young, no kids, etc. The appeal of MN are things you don't understand yet. And, like I said, nowhere is for everyone. You couldn't pay me to live in LA, or down south. But that is me...

    Chicago is an amazing city.

Other than that, the midwest is pretty boring lol.

when factoring in where you live, how important are the following?
-cost of living (ie, cost to rent/buy a home)
    -education
    -safety/crime

for a 20ish year old, those things don't matter. Like at all. And those are things that absolutely separate MN from most coastal areas. Now, there are a lot of factors going the other way haha, I just mean the reasons I am here, mean nothing to your current life situation.

Chicago, and MAYBE St Louis, are the only other 2 midwestern cities I would live in.
