MLB Network showed a list of players that have had a .400 average for the first 60 games of a season and it was about 10 guys in the past 40 years. It is not uncommon for a hitter to start off on fire.

To get back on topic, does anyone else think someone will hit .400 this season?
I think it could happen but I also doubt it will get looked at as a .400 season

It's possible, I just think with the long layoff and the short camp, not a lot of guys are going to be at their best. All it'll take is a few game skid and .400 won't be obtainable by most hitters.

Usually the hitters are ahead of the pitchers, this should still be true

Well, fair point. It just seems like it'll be difficult, to me.

Mike Leake, Ryan Zimmerman, and Joe Ross are the first players to opt out of the season.

At least that won't be a thing in October.

Zimmerman has a whole host of reasons not to play, but it sucks this might be it for him as far as retirement.

Both he and Leake are interesting. They obviously aren't stars, but have had very good careers and made a lot of money. I can easily see some other players in similar circumstances doing that.

I'm ok with rule changes that evolve the game, this is one I can't seem to get on board with. I understand it in the minor leagues, but in the highest league in the world, seems too gimmicky. However, since this is a weird season anyways, I'm not going to get annoyed by it.

Yah, i really don't mind it in this short season. But i'll hate if it's the plan going forward. They're taking advantage of the situation to force it in, and will likely try their hardest to keep it around.
