I donít think heís athletic enough to create separation and it seems like he doesnít break many tackles. I donít really get the appeal here.

Yea. i could say the same thing about zach ertz coming out. I just think we have to pray this TE coach can develop him. the truth is Kmet was an ascending TE. had he stayed at Notre dame he may have been a 1st round guy next year. Maybe not. but we will have to see.

I think its not hard to argue though that he was the best TE prospect. I still don't like spending 43 on him but u did. just gotta hope he works out diferent than adam shaheen.

    43rd Pick: TE, Cole Kmet

Any thoughts on Kmet essentially being Kyle Rudolph?

IF we got Kyle Rudolph it would be a disapointment but at the same time.... probably an upgrade.

As much as I wanted so many other players at this spot I'm going to be a homer and come around on this pick and get excited about it.

    Almost 6'6"
    4.7 40yd
    37 inch vert

Massive human being that will create matchup problems. Great blocker, high football IQ. Great person. Has some serious upside potential. The NFL game is different than college and gets the tight ends more involved through creativity. This is my glass half full analysis.

    Bear down Cole Kmet!

This pick does not suck at all!
Eiffert. Injuries have killed his career, but he was a better athlete, and overall prospect coming out.

Kmet is more in line with Kyle Rudolph.

Iíll be happy if we get Kyle Rudolph. I donít see that, though.

I think weíre getting Kellen Davis.

I'm not the biggest fan of this pick, but it's mostly because of the negativity here, not necessarily that I have anything against Kmet. I'm admittedly pretty ignorant of the draft process, but it seems TE is rarely one where you have a "can't miss" andrew luck/peyton manning/ adrian peterson prospect. But a lot of the rip on Kmet is his lack of athleticism. Here are combine numbers of 4 TEs.

    TE1
    Height: 76.88 inches
    Weight: 257 pounds
    Arm Length: 33.75 inches
    Hand Size: 9.63 inches
    40 Yard Dash: 4.61 seconds
    Vertical Leap: 35.0 inches
    Broad Jump: 124 inches
    20 Yd Shuttle: 4.42 seconds
    Wingspan: 80.000 inches

    College stats:
    G Rec Yds Avg TD
    11 1 3 3.0 0
    11 13 150 11.5 2
    13 45 722 16.0 8

    TE2
    Height: 75.75 inches
    Weight: 247 pounds
    Arm Length: 33.13 inches
    Hand Size: 9.25 inches
    40 Yard Dash: 4.52 seconds
    Vertical Leap: 35.0 inches
    Broad Jump: 132 inches
    20 Yd Shuttle: 4.59 seconds
    Wingspan: 78.500 inches

    College stats:
    GP Rec Yards Avg TDs
    3 5 108 21.6 0
    3 1 25 25.0 0
    10 20 290 14.5 6
    9 22 314 14.3 4

    TE3
    Height: 76 inches
    Weight: 250 pounds
    Arm Length: 33.00 inches
    Hand Size: 10.50 inches
    40 Yard Dash: 4.70 seconds
    Vertical Leap: 37.0 inches
    Broad Jump: 123 inches
    20 Yd Shuttle: 4.41 seconds
    Three Cone: 7.44 seconds
    Wingspan: 79.000 inches

    College stats:
    GP Rec Yards Avg TDs
    4 2 14 7.0 0
    9 15 162 10.8 0
    10 43 515 12.0 6
    TE4
    Height: 78.25 inches
    Weight: 258 pounds
    Arm Length: 34.25 inches
    Hand Size: 10.75 inches
    40 Yard Dash: 4.68 seconds
    Vertical Leap: 33.5 inches
    Broad Jump: 119 inches
    20 Yd Shuttle: 4.47 seconds
    Wingspan: (N/A) inches

    College Stats:
    GP Rec Yards Avg TDs
    12 28 525 18.75 6
    10 47 672 14.3 10

I guess you can nitpick on the subtle differences (TE2 is slightly smaller and faster, TE4 is bigger but can't jump as well). But they are in the same ballpark.

    TE1 was a 3rd Rounder (63 overall)
    TE2 was a 5th rounder (146 overall)
    TE3 was a 2nd rounder (43 overall)
    TE4 was a 2nd rounder (42 overall)

    And in case you're wondering
    TE1: Travis Kelce
    TE2: George Kittle
    TE3: Cole Kmet
    TE4: Rob Gronkowski

I guess my point is, I think it has a lot to do with your coaching, coachability, and scheme. Because we could probably dig up similar or better numbers on TEs that turned out to be flops. But to say he'll definitely be a bust or not worth it based on athleticism, I guess I'm not following. Also, he might not produce as much this year, but isn't Jimmy G getting up there in age anyway? So best case scenario, Graham has a good year or 2, but then ages, you'll need his replacement at that time. Why draft him then? I get the needs at other positions, but last year when i was watching a game, I rarely thought "geez the defense let us down again" I more frequently thought, dang this offense is anemic

Our run game was the worst in the league last year. We got a guy who can run block, probably better than Graham. It's not all about separation or catches with TE, they function as O-line in different sets too. Our O-line wasn't great, to say the least. We could have 20 TE's right now, it was still probably our weakest position.
