Giants Round 2 Pick: DB Xavier McKinney

    Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama
    Height: 6-0. Weight: 201. Arm: 30.88. Hand: 8.63.
    40 Time: 4.64.
    Projected Round (2020): 1-2.

4/22/20:*Late in the process, McKinney slid after a disappointing combine with a slow 40 time. He also is undersized, so there are concerns about him holding up in the NFL. Aside from that, McKinney is the top consensus safety across the league. He probably will get selected late in the first round, but he has an outside chance of slipping into the early second round.

McKinney had 95 tackles with three interceptions, three sacks, five passes defended and four forced fumbles in 2019. He was a steady and good safety for Alabama, displaying his versatility. McKinney showed the ability to be a jack-of-all-trades in the secondary, as he is able to contribute in man coverage on tight ends and wide receivers, can play deep zone free safety, also has the strength to tackle and can be the eighth man in the box. McKinney has size, speed, athleticism and upside for the NFL.

6/22/19:*McKinney broke out in 2018 as Alabama's best defensive back. He totaled 73 tackles with 10 breakups, two interceptions and one forced fumble on the year. McKinney played strong safety in 2018, but he is versatile and could play more free safety in 2019 with Deionte Thompson in the NFL.

I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

I personally thought they would go pass rusher or center here.

I like it. Thought there were some very interesting pass rushers to consider, but McKinney is good value as well.

But I canít be upset by this pick, he was the best safety available and well they need help all over defense.

Like the pick. Canít complain about these SEC players. Slower 40 time then Landon collins but iím confident heís a better fit at FS then landon. If he really pans out, i think his ceiling is malcolm jenkins.

When they showed his highlights, they said ďhe can cover TEs, he can cover RBsĒ .. music to my ears, canít remember the last S or LB who was capable of doing that.

Who was the last giants defender that was able to cover a TE?

Love this pick. Absolutely love it. Great value here.

Best safety in draft. Alabama stud. Played in secondary and as coverage LB.

He is so versatile and I think it gives us a glimpse into what kind of defense we may see.

Still need an edge rusher and a coverage linebacker IMO.

Love it. Secondary desperately needs a boost. Could use another cb.

Only thing that pauses me a little is that we needed a true rangy FS imo, and heís not that. But putting need aside heís a great player and great value

Great value. Secondary should be our most improved unit from last season.
