I don't have an argument, just an opinion. My opinion is that these producers can take the measures to stop the spread in their plants. Up until several weeks ago, I was in these plants weekly. My crews are there daily. The measures they take to secure our food is crazy and why they can't take similar measures to secure their employees health is even crazier. Have you ever been in a meat processing facility?

Nope but heard plenty about them from my dad who was a butcher for decades.

These plants slaughter 1-5 million heads a day. These aren't butcher shops. Think about this for a minute. Tyson's poultry plants process 1m birds/day on average. That's spread over 120+ plants that they operate. Do the math. You take out even 1% of that x all the other producers (Smithfield and JBS are next) we are ****ed.

I'm well aware that they are not butcher shops and nowhere near it. My dad was a butcher that managed a meat department and would get flown out to slaughterhouses. I was certainly not trying to equate a butcher shop or meat department to a slaughterhouse.

Losing some of these resources would not be good but I'm very confident going vegetarian for a few months isn't going to kill anyone.

You got a green house in your backyard? And does it grow enough to fill 5 million plates?

A mini one, yes. I also have fruit trees, veggies, and herbs growing.

    You?

You answered that before my edit. You're fast.

Yes. We have 5 planters growing everything from jalapenos to green beans. It's enough to provide nourishment for my family and a neighbor or two. Not my city.

And we have been doing that for years. Not covid related at all.

Well of course. No one was arguing otherwise.

The fact that the supply chain of chicken and pork is very important and also being able to understand that it's a difficult hardship to feel the need to work even if it is at somewhere you don't currently feel safe working aren't mutually exclusive things.

Why exactly would a reduction in the national stock of pork and chicken lead to a situation where one would suddenly need to start growing enough fruits and vegetables to supply their whole city?

Seems like quite the leap to me.
