    Lions sign Chase Daniel

Chase Daniel beat the Lions, and now heís going to join them.

Daniel, the backup quarterback who was pressed into starting duty on Thanksgiving in 2018 in Detroit and led the Bears to a victory, will sign with Detroit, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Itís reportedly a three-year, $13.05 million deal with a voidable clause, which sounds like solid money for a backup. The Lionsí season fell apart after Matthew Stafford was injured last season, and theyíre paying Daniel to make sure that doesnít happen again.

The 33-year-old Daniel has started just five games in his NFL career, but heís been a trusty backup for a very long time, and now heíll get one more opportunity.

Once again it seems the Lions spent more money then necessary. However we do need an NFL caliber backup.

The #Lions have sured up the backup QB position on Day 2 of FA, Chase Daniel has attempted 217 passes in his career but 140 have been in the past 2 seasons with CHI

Daniel has been one of the better QBs with Play Action since 2018, his 132.5 PR is 4th among QBs (min 25 PA Att)

At least he'll fit in to the offense the Lions want to run if Stafford were to get hurt again.

Is just over 4 mil/year a lot for a backup QB? I honestly have no clue.

From what I've seen on spotrac no. He seems to fit in fine. However I am not keen in dumping a lot of money in the spot unless it is a rookie or young QB ready to take over, warts and all.

The only thing I like about this acquisition is that heís not a former patriot.
Aside from that, I hate it.

This is probably the best back up qb we have had in 10 years. Why are people so upset over it?

what's the point? if Stafford goes down the season is over and we win a few more games and get a worse pick

And we ended up releasing our developmental QB Kyle Slotter...

Chase Daniel is 33 not even that good

I do not see us winning with any quality back up, itís simply not the lion way. Iíd rather get Tim Tebow to sit on the bench & be a positive role model for the guys.
