A bit of light thinking, I wonder how many new babies will born in November/December, because of the lockdown and well, what do people do when they are stuck inside...?
I wonder if the amount of new life will be greater or less than the life lost?

LOL I was having this discussion with my wife last night. During blackouts in NYC they see a spike in the birth rate, I imagine we see a spike nationally as a result of any lockdown.

The peak is when we will know how bad it is. Hopefully we flatten that curve with all of the precautionary measures so far.

Dr, how are you doing? We may disagree with politics but we are still like one big family on this forum. Hope all stays safe.

And I still think something this bad is man made. The death rate is very alarming and that is why I say that somebody created this stuff.

And why in 2020 when technology is at its highest can a virus like this strangle the World?

Why didn't something like this pop out in say 1965 when it was harder to knock a virus out?

From the Spanish flu(1917)-2020 nothing has ever been this bad GLOBALLY, nothing that is this contagious by touching something or getting a droplet from a sneeze. It had to be manufactured by man IMO.

It's not necassarily the development, it's the testing and clinical trials required to prove safety and efficacy.

A covid-19 vaccine developed, licensed, and manufactured at a global scale in twelve months would be an unprecedented, remarkable, even revolutionary achievement, as stated by Fauci recently. No other vaccine has come close to being developed that quickly.

To create a viable, scalable vaccine “takes vast amounts of funding and R. & D.,” Rachel Grant, the advocacy and communications director at cepi, told me. “It is a long and complex business. It’s all doable, science can meet the challenges, but there is lots of attrition” before any vaccine gets to the point of licensure. The problem is twofold. First, there may never be a market for a vaccine at the end of the development process, because the epidemic is contained, or never comes to pass. Then, traditionally, if there is an epidemic, it may take hold in a developing country where the costs of research and development cannot be recouped. “The resources and expertise sit in biotech and pharma, and they’ve got their business model,” Grant said. “They’re not charities. They can’t do this stuff for free.”

Two grant recipients—a Massachusetts-based biotech startup named Moderna and a lab at the University of Queensland, in Brisbane, Australia—have, remarkably, already developed a vaccine candidate that they will start testing in human trials in the next few months, and another biotech startup supported by cepi is not far behind. But, ultimately, to get three different vaccines through the final phase of clinical testing, Nick Jackson, cepi’s head of programs and innovative technology, told me, will require an estimated two billion dollars. >>
