    Cap hit is what matters.

I hate the deal (mostly because he's toast), but it's more palatable if the cap hit is low and guaranteed money is paid up front.

I have no problem signing him, but it should have been for about 1/3 of the cost.

    Something like that, yea.

The way it is now, it's a poor deal for the Bears.

witten gets up to $4.5 one year?

    https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ee-to-contract

Graham - up to $13mil ($9mil full), two years, 33 years old
Witten - up to $4.5mil, one year, 37 years old

maybe that's just what TEs are getting this year?

This right here. No good TE's are signing for 3 mill, especially in FA when teams have money. Undeniable we needed a another good TE, If Burton goes down again, we're stuck. Probably saved us from drafting one with a second round pick, how much is that worth? Getting a good o-line player or receiver for years, and who we can develop, rather than a rookie tight end we would have to play immediately. You almost always overpay in FA or risk getting nothing. This was a mid ceiling, high floor move, and it's only 2 years. Our other 5-6 useless tight ends could learn a lot from him.

I think the trade market got way top high too. i figured maybe you could get Engram..... Njoku .... or say oj Howard for a late round pick..... but when Hurst who is the most unproven of the 4 goes for a 2nd..... What can u do.

I posted this in the offseason forum, but it's a good short read

    https://www.profootballnetwork.com/j...elease-the-te/

Considering the Bears have no one at TE, i do not at all mind this signing. Article puts some things in perspective.

However, while the box score does not impress, Graham was ranked as TE10 according to Pro Football Networkís Offensive Share Metric.

During the 2019 season, Graham earned an overall OSM score of 37.7. He led all pass-catchers in average separation according to the NFLís Next Gen Stats, finding 3.9 yards of separation per target. He posted a modest reception rate of 63.33% on 60 targets. Speaking of that target count, it was rather low in 2018 in comparison to the rest of the league, 447 yards on 38 receptions is not too shabby.

While his overall production has dropped since his time in New Orleans, according to OSM, Graham can still be a valuable piece to an offense. While the volume may have been lacking, Graham accelerated in other ways. 23 of his 38 catches were first downs, and he is still able to stretch the field averaging 11.8 yards per reception.

Added SS and linebacker depth with Mingo and Lucas. Would have preferred Tony Jefferson, but opens up their draft options. They should be trying to get some late round picks for some of these tight ends, think we have 7 now?

Jimmy Graham is only 3 seasons off of being good. He was still good in Seattle.

We'll see. Hate the contract now, maybe in hindsight we'll be saying otherwise.
