Biological warfare isn't really outside the realm of reality.

This happened a century ago. Flu epidemic of 1917-1918. 500 million died in that one. This one figures to be a lot worse. The world is more interconnected and there are a lot more people.

This was a time bomb waiting to happen. Surprising it took this long.

There won't be a vaccine available until next year at the earliest. And there's no guarantee there will ever be one. They never did find one for the AIDS virus, for example.

All the health authorities can do is try to slow it down. Hospital facilities can barely handle what they've got now without adding hundreds of millions of new cases. It won't be pretty. If you're one of the unlucky ones to get pneumonia out of this, chances are you're going to die as this pandemic progresses. But, if you get any kind of serious illness in the next couple of years, chances are you won't be able to get medical care. There's going to be a lot of collateral damage.

The conspiracy guys are right about one thing. This will be absolutely devastating to our economy.
They forget, of course, that it will be devastating to everyone's economy particularly China's.
Because this is going to run into next year for sure, I don't know how the economy survives. Most businesses won't be able to survive closing up their shops for exteneded periods of time, not to mention the loss in demand when people won't be able to go out and shop or mingle in the streets. A lot of people are going to be out of work. Not only here, but everywhere.

Between the illness and the economic repercussions, this will not play out well at all.

I would think that before a vaccine is discovered, the virus will reach a critical mass and then subside on it's own. Presumably, once you got it and survive and the virus doesn't mutate into a new strain, you'll be immune. Let's hope so, anyway. The critical mass will be when most people have already gotten it and either survived and are immune or got it and died. After that, it will wind down. By then, however, lots of bad stuff will have happened.

As far as conspiracy theorists and democracy. China can't ruin democracy. IAnyone with more than half a brain knows that democracy has been ruined already a long time ago. It's a government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich. You can't ruin what's already been ruined.

This all could have been sorted out if the president and our government would have reacted properly instead of calling this a democratic hoax. Now we are months behind every other country except for Italy in regards to this pandemic. In China it has started to slow down, and in S. Korea, they rolled out massive testings. We still have minimal testing right now.

In China, it's slowed down, but with draconian measures where they've essentially shut society for two months. That's not sustainable. Once they come out of their bunkers, it will flare up again because people aren't immune.
All they've done is slow it down enough so that their medical facilities can handle the load (they built a bunch of new hospitals in no time, by the way), but at an incredible unsustainable cost to their society. It's far from over in China, don't let the current slow down in cases fool you.

[Russo] Per Dan Woike, via mass text: "The suspension is indefinite, but from what I was told by a league official earlier this week, a player testing positive would mean everything goes on pause (at minimum) for a month

There is only 2 options... Either they come back and just play the playoffs how the standings are now while shortening the first round or they dont play again until next season.... There is 0 chance the game comes back before may if even that. America will legit get swarmed with cases soon... The NBA will have to legit say we will do the playoffs with no fans and players arent going to want to come back after 2 months of not playing/practicing and play in front of no crowds... The only option is going to be to cancel the season.

So if this NBA shutdown continues for long, the free agents are pretty much ****ed up. The economic effects will be massive and there wonít be enough money to throw at them. Those who took short contracts in favor of a bigger bank this season are messed up

So if they donít finish the year does that mean thereís no 2019/2020 NBA Champion because that would be weird.

No team is going to agree to just canceling the rest of the season with no playoffs. Especially the ones who are title contenders. Even if they happen 2 or 3 months from now, there will be playoffs.

sure the top 4 seeds will want it in the bucks/lakers/clippers/raptors but what about everyone else? Even lebron stated before he realize his stupidity he wouldnt play in front of no crowds... now we have no crowds/2 months off/no practice or games/and a worse outbreak.... there is 0 chance players will do this **** just to finish this season when players are now getting sick and its only going to get worse. This is Pandora box for the sports world... its not going to end all life or threaten life but its not going to allow sports be played over the next few months.

Doesn't change the fact that this current regime did not take this virus seriously and waited at least a month to take some sort of action since it's initial outbreak.

And I think they will cancel the season. Playoffs/Finals all that doesn't matter when lives are at stake. I mean we still can't test majority of the people because we don't have enough tests.

I think the Raptors run last year is 100% proof as to why this statement is true. That was their 1 shot.
