The team announced the release of veteran linebacker Tahir Whitehead on Monday. The move clears $6.25 million of Whitehead's $7.291 million cap number from the Raiders' books. Whitehead signed a three-year contract with the Raiders in 2018 after spending six seasons with the Lions

Tahir Whitehead's 941 defensive snaps last season for #Raiders were the most in NFL for any LB who failed to record a sack, INT, fumble recovery or forced fumble

he was also ranked as one of the worst players in pass coverage in the NFL

Whitehead also had no sacks, INTs, fumble recoveries or forced fumbles in 929 snaps in '16 w/ Det. Only other LBs since '04 to do that in 900+ snaps:
Preston Brown 2017 Bills, 1,096 snaps
    Miles Burris 2014 #Raiders, 1,059
    Keith Brooking 2008 Atl, 995
    Vincent Rey 2014 Cin, 928

At first i read that as you were expecting a 2 pound dump in FA and 2 more pounds in the draft...long day.

I think that sounds about right. I am still curious about Burfict though. He could come back.

A 2 pound dump at MLB might actually be progress

Vic Tafur seems to think it's unlikely that Burfict comes back. He did go on to say that if Burfict is back it's either because the league gave assurances that he won't be suspended for a lengthy time again or the Raiders failed via free agency and the draft to make the necessary upgrades.

Personally if he doesn't get a job as a player, I would hire him as a defensive coach and help with coaching the LB's. He knows Guenthers system really well.
