So apparently big buff and the jets agreed to a mutual termination. Making buff a FA Imediately.

Yep. Sign me up if we ever play again.
myers, byfuglien and niskanen on the right side

provorov, sanheim and ghost (or hagg, i guess) on the left.

    yeah, that'd work.

Not sure if they do the 24 team playoff bracket I like our first matchup. Habs vs Pens best of 5 and we get the winner, they get to play at least competitive games while the Flyers sit. God knows the Flyers start slow, it will Jake till the finals to be in hockey shape again, if we make it that far. Everyone would be back and healthy except Patrick. But all the other teams get players back that normally wouldn't be ready to go if the season never stopped.

    Iím ready to call it.

No season; no lottery draft, just order based on record, hold the draft on-time, donít award a cup, and give teams 2 compliance buy-outs and a 50% cap compliance (highest paid player only counts as 50% for their cap hit if they agree to take 50% less salary) for only next season. State the season doesnít count as an RFA season for players for clubs so expansion doesnít destroy teams.

The cap is going to plummet by 5 or 6 million based on lost revenue. Maybe more, because the 2020/21 season may be in jeopardy.

This is going to get ugly for the NHL.

my guess is that a one-time salary roll-back will be negotiated by the NHL and the NHLPA, that also includes a substantial percentage of revenue getting thrown into escrow. this would take the worst case scenarios off the table for teams that were already in poor financial shape, but if things recover more quickly than expected, it would also get the players back a bigger percentage of their lost salary than if things proceed as expected.

i would also not be surprised to see expansion pushed back by a year or two, if not outright cancelled. it seems likely that some teams will be pushed past the brink of insolvency by this disruption, and the league office can grease the skids to push one of them to seattle.

just when things were starting to look good for flyers. F all of this
i think most of the other teams at the top of the east are going to be hit harder than us. PIT, WAS and BOS are losing prime seasons from crosby, malkin, ovechkin, bergeron, marchand, krejci, backstrom, carlsson, letang. those players are the core of their teams, and they're all over 30.

even if JVR, voracek, giroux and niskanen struggle to get up to speed when the league comes back, we do at least have a foundation of players who'll be in their prime coming out of this. konecny, couturier, hayes, provorov, ghost, myers, sanheim, hart. but PIT, BOS and WAS are heavily reliant on the continued excellence of their 30+ year old stars.

i'm still fairly pessimistic about the season restarting (and in the event that it does restart, actually finishing without incident), but apparently the NHL's plan looks something like this:

    -- no regular season
-- 24 teams make the "playoffs"
    -- 8 teams (4 in each conference) get a 1st round bye
-- the remaining 16 teams play a 5 game series to get down to 16 teams.

there's still a lot that has to happen, but it holds up, the flyers would get one of those 1st round byes.

byes are worse in my opinion. playoffs are a lot of hot streaks and momentum as we all know. im honesly over this season.

ya if there is a bye week penguins will play montreal. Then we would play a more game shape and healthy (guentzel is back) team. Don't like that at all

the flyers have a 100% chance to be in the final 16.

an average team from the play-in round only has a 50% chance at it.

this would be a big advantage.

keep in mind that JVR and myers would have missed at least a month if the season hadn't been interrupted. with those two, plus ghost and grant, this would (arguably) be the strongest lineup we've had all year:

    giroux - couturier - konecny
    farabee - hayes - voracek
    JVR - laughton - grant
    pitlick - thompson - raffl/NAK

    provorov - niskanen
    sanheim - myers
    ghost - braun/hagg

some moderately interesting factoids regarding our record this season:

    .. with lindblom: 17-8-5 (107 points per 82 games)
    .. without lindblom: 24-13-2 (105 points per 82 games)

    .. with myers: 33-12-5 (116 points per 82 games)
    .. without myers: 8-9-2 (78 points per 82 games)

    .. with ghost: 20-17-5 (88 points per 82 games)
    .. without ghost: 21-4-2 (133 points per 82 games)

    .. with hart: 24-13-3 (105 points per 82 games)
    .. with elliott: 16-7-4 (109 points per 82 games)

ya and the penguins will also ice their strongest lineup WITH guentzel. Their top 6 will be:

    guenztel-crosby-zucker
    rust-malkin-hornqvist

doumulin and marino back as well.

Not saying we don't have a chance. We can beat anyone. However, the penguins will be off a 5 game series. They will come in with their skating legs and that will benefit them immensely (especially their injured players). Id rather just skip the bye all together and just go with the current record. I would 100% rather be in penguins siituation than where we are right now. They have an easy matchup against montreal which will just aid them in getting ready. Its lame af

The whole thing wonít make economic sense, and it cheapens the cup ... just move on at this point. There is just as much to plan and worry about in 2020/2021 and being ready for late September

100%. It would be cool to see since we are all so bored but we have gone this much without it. Get next season ready to go so we won't miss out on thatt. Maybe make next season even more special somehow. Have some type of midseason awards or tournament.
