what will our cap situation look like next year?

we need to sign or let go (what will they get if they come):

    hagg-how many years/$
pitlick-i want him back..good raffl replacement when his contract is up- how many years/$ if hes coming back
braun-don't see him coming back at all
    patrick-how many years/$
    myers-how many years/$

backup goalie: i dont wan't elliot back. There are better options this year:
    khudobin, dell, halak, brossoit, domingue,

going to be hard to add everyone.

I think it's impossible to say right now. The lost revenue could have a serious impact on the cap, can it not?

Move Ghost, Hagg, Laughton ... donít resign Braun and Thompson

Resign Sanheim a season early 6x5m/year
    Resign Myers 6x3.5m/year
    Resign Grant 1x2m/year
    Resign Pitlick 2x2m/year
    Resign NAK 3x1.5m/year
Resign Lindblom 5x2.5m/year (security for a great contract)
    Resign Patrick 3x4m/year
    Resign Friedman 3x1m/year

Hope one of Zamula, Morin, York, and kalynuk can play so you donít need to find a Dman in FA ... Possibly promote Friedman to the NHL ... or sign TVR ... or trade for Pulock or Montour, which would be ideal as they are RFAs

But given we have no idea how the cap is going to work, this is all hypothetical

I agree with you on the goalie, and Iím in the minority here, but Iím comfortable with Lyon as a backup ... Iíd rather have a positionally sound goalie as a backup to a bigger name that will want more starts ... Iíve always thought Lyon was good enough to be an NHL backup.

lol myers won't do 3.5 for 6 years that would be a steal. Pitlick we can probably sign for that or raffl term. I think lindblom and patrick will do 2.5/2-3 years or sanheim contract. Idk though, im not a contract guy. We need ACE on this lol.

i don't want lyon at all. It still would be ideal to get a decent backup in case of injury. I don't think lyon could be worse than elliot but i want someone better than both. If we can get khudobin for elliot money im all for it.

Not sure on Myers, that is a significant raise and great security for a guy who wasnít drafted that the organization found a diamond in the rough with ... and him/Sanheim would be together for the next 5 years ... which is great for them both.

Donít sleep on Lyon as a stop-gap backup ... he is pretty good. Halak is going to command more starts and I want our franchise to be ďthe manĒ ... his comfort is worth 2 or 3 losses a year.

The only one I didn't agree with is that there is no way we get Lindblom at 5 years/2.5M

Depends on where he is at in his recovery ... it is a risk for both sides ... he might never play again. I can see shorter term, but heíll want more money and you donít get full cap relief if he doesnít play.

I'd imagine that Lindblom isn't worried about money right now. He's got much bigger problems.

So many issues with this. I'll start with the obvious ones.

    1. Paying 4 million a year for a 30 pt player who hasn't played in, checks calendar, 12-16 months, who has chronic health issues, is possible cap suicide.

    2. 5 year contracts to a player currently fighting cancer is insane. How bout we do something smart? Like 3 million dollar salary in a front office advisory role with full medical benefits. We help the kid when he needs it. If he beats it and gets back to hockey shape, we can figure that out then. Hope the kid pays the organization back for being there in his time of need (as they should be)

    3. Contenders don't go into seasons with inexperienced backup goalie who struggle in their limited NHL time. Get a solid backup. If it's Moose it's moose. If it's not, it not. By Lyons is not the right answer.

    4. Goodluck getting Myers to sign a 6 year deal with that AAV.

    5. Keep ghost. Let him build his value. Move on during the season. Maximizing potential returns, unless of course theres fair value available the off-season (unlikely)

    6. Laughton >Grant just a general statement.

    1) Patrick is going to command that money because of his draft selection ... we will be lucky to keep it under 5.5m for a cap hit

    2) if Lindblom doesnít play again, there is no cap penalty and heíd retire ... if he does, or is working back, itís a low cap hit for a high end scorer ... seems like it works on all sides; it would also be fair to someone who was lights out and then got horrible cancer. Heís young and weíd be paying for his 26, 27, and 28 year old years

    3) Lyon can be a solid NHL backup, he has done well in his time up with the big club and he is positionally sound. Other backups will be quite expensive and only marginally better while commanding more playing time. I know goaltending well enough to say Iím comfortable with Lyonís positioning to know he is serviceable.

    4) Couturier signed for a 4.3 cap hit, which I was shocked at ... so it could happen. Myers might do the same ... he would still hit free agency at 29 ... and it keeps him with Sanheim long term. I do think itís doable.

    5) id love to keep ghost, but expansion is coming and we can only protect 3 spots with the obvious, if there is a great deal - we have to move him ... Iím a huge Ghost guy, but those are the breaks. Iíd love to keep him and take the risk he doesnít get picked in expansion, but losing him for nothing is insane.

    6) Laughton makes 2.5m or thereabouts, and he isnít worth that for a 4th line center. We have too many options at this point who are just as good and maybe better. Grant on a 1 year deal is fine for a 13th forward or 4th line rental.

    1. He can sit out then. I'm fine with it. Be healthy first. Then be good. Then get paid.

    2. I will admit I forgot the rules on the cap when it would come to Lindblom. Still, I'd rather him not be worrying about playing. Take care of him, earn the respect around the league. Worry about the hockey later.

    3. Elliot could likely be brought back for about 2 million again, other guys will be out there around that number. Guys with proven NHL success. I don't want Hart going too far over 50-55 starts anyway. I want a guy capable of playing 30+ games if needed. As a contender next season, I'm not willing to cross my fingers and hope Lyons is good enough for any of that.

    4. Without looking I would guess the cap was about 10% lower when Couts signed. Meaning he signed for about 25% more cap space on the AAV. I highly doubt Myers would take that AAV for 6 years. He may take 6 years, or that AAV just doubt it's both. Hope I'm wrong though.

    5. This is why I advocated for selling high 2 years ago before this team turned the corner. The likelihood of getting fair value for a guy who is an offensive defensemen who hasn't put up offense in two consecutive seasons is slim. I'd rather keep him and take a run next year or figure it out before expansion next off-season than sell low. We both agree if the right deals there you take it, I just don't think the right deal will be there.

    6. The cap hits will be comparable between Grant and Laughton. Laughton is better, and more versatile. It's time to ice the best players possible, and try and win. I'm not saying don't bring Grant baxk, I'm saying you shouldn't move Laughton to make lineup space.
